No more Rakeback carbon No more Rakeback carbon

01-22-2013 , 08:27 PM
Hi xxxx,
CarbonPoker has decided to remove rakeback entirely as of January 31st, 11:59 PM EST. All players will be transferred from the rakeback program to the VIP program.

This change enables us to offer larger and more beneficial bonuses and ultimately allows for an improved distribution of bonuses to our players.

Players can receive similar benefits and rewards as they would have with the rakeback program through our evolving VIP program. Removal of rakeback applies to all existing and new players. Please note that VIP points earned by players in the rakeback program are not transferable.

Iam over this bs no more iam done

Yea, 35% was just too thin of margins for them

I like Carbon and some good people work there, but the Merge management, since the old management left, has been mind bogglingly incompetent.

It starts with just no idea how to communicate with their customers. It extends to ripping off their players in deals they make with skins that were bought out/agreed to transfer players to other skins for some value in return.

Not to mention the business plan of letting Lock undercut all your other skins, take 20-25% of the network's players and leave. They started their "squeeze the other skins out" strategy about 6 months too late.

Sad times for US facing networks.

As far as I know, there are only two other networks with the exception of Bodog (no huds) which is Winning Network (ACR and Black Chip) and Lock.

With the problems of paying its players Lock seems like a bad choice and ACR and Black Chip have a lower rakeback % and it also for now does not support HM2. :/

Don't you want to at least wait to see what their evolving VIP program will be like before declaring you are leaving?

Cross post from the thread in our own forum:

After being able to digest this for a while, we believe that moving away from rakeback, to an improved VIP program, is the best way to build and improve the overall poker ecology of our network.

While we understand that many people who currently receive rakeback will not feel the same way, we are taking these steps now to secure the longevity of the network, and to put ourselves in a position to offer more rewards, more evenly distrobuted across the entire playerbase on the network.

We believe wholeheartedly that it is the best option for all our players, and are excited about what is to come.

So this is about redistribution to fish?
01-22-2013 , 09:28 PM

Exactly what I was thinking.

How so? I thought people could get switched one time, and if they couldn't, they were already on VIP anyway. Also, they always had the option of a different skin.

Evolving VIP?

If a new, better VIP system was being implemented, they'd release the details, imo.

It will probably be the same VIP that's in place now.

True, but we can hope for some improvement. At least they are still giving the affiliates up to 40% of our rake though, right? I don't think they are going to take that away also. I signed up directly through the site so I have no affiliate. Maybe if everyone else did the same then we could keep our rakeback instead of the affiliates getting it all.

I don't have an affiliate either.

I never felt that some random affiliate should be making money from me playing poker.

I'm not sure what the %'s are but I'm sure it's significant.

Well that makes it easy for me was thinking about opening a account, all set with that.

I agree. If you read the ChipSplit affiliate program that Carbon offers affiliates it says they give affiliates up to 40% of each players revenue. I suppose with the higher net rake we will now be paying, the affiliates will be making more in the end. So expect them to support this move.

no one is buying this BS

I don't see how this could help the ecosystem.

All the high volume, higher stakes guys are already on VIP. Nothing will change for them.

It's the medium and low stakes low volume guys who's rake is going up.

What good does it do to increase their rake?

Even if you give it right back in promos, still seems like a waste of time, unless promos brings in more players than rakeback.

Their actions in the past when they wanted to increase the playerpool indicate the opposite.

When Lock left, and they lost their monopoly, they had to offer RB again. So it seems to me that there's not a lot of excitement for VIP programs. They were all-VIP for a while only when they had 100% market share of US players.
