I have another pet peeve that has to do with dealers. This one is probably my biggest "dealer" pet peeve.

If a new player sits down in or a couple seats before the big blind and he appears ready to play in a room that doesn't require posting, don't ask him "Are you ready or do you wanna wait".

Does this really annoy people? I used to do this all the time when I played, and almost every other player I've played with does as well. I've never heard a single person complain about while in the game. I just never thought somebody would be annoyed by this!

The silence and head shaking from everyone else while you're doing that is a hint. ;-)

It's mixed on the button moving. I have seen some dealers who I respect post here saying they greatly prefer no one else move it, but they are all men. I typically sit at end of table and when I move it for someone like a female asian dealer with very short arms, they always seem legitimately grateful.

Same here, never once seen a head shake or sigh, everyone at my room does this anyway.

What? No. Unless you know the player well and know what his answer will be, the dealer should always ask, even if posting is not required. Some players will want to come in behind the button.

From today:

4 players out of 9 w/ their heads in a device full time and a 5th on the phone, each has to be 'woken up' when it's their turn. I've heard some rooms have rules to help w/ this, Casino Arizona isn't one of them.

Obviously these are the bad regs, and one OMC nit who is well known in my room to sit down, play a couple hands then walks around looking for the "perfect" game with the most loose fish.
Definitely this. It's even more annoying when it breaks the game, and I've seen a lot of regs get up and walk around because they hate playing 6 handed. One or two guys would actually stand and watch the table (and not play a hand) because it was 6 handed and they were hoping someone else would show up and play. But usually they get up and leave for 30 minutes, come back, see a table that's short, and then rack up and leave. Then other players get discouraged and tempted to leave.

The floor openly siding with 'regs' because they recognize them even if you play there 3-5 days a week in their largest games and they have no clue who you are...

Yes, it bugs the **** out of me. Why? Because it screws up the dealer's "flow" and slows the game down. After every hand, every dealer has his or her own way of pushing the pot, moving the button, pulling the deck together, etc., and you moving the button messes that up and they have to pause and sometimes ask "is the button right?"

That's why.

At least make a big announcement about it and make sure the dealer sees you move the button. The worst are the ones who just silently do it and then the dealer reaches over and moves it again.

I agree with this. When you move the button, notice how the dealer goes to move it before realizing it's already moved. Also, sometimes the player never says anything and it gets moved twice, then action is halted while everyone tries to figure out who had the button last.

this is true, and if they want to wait, they will tell the dealer "I'll wait" instead of the dealer asking them and letting them think it over and then decide to wait.

If someone I don't know sits down I'll just deal them in. If you hear me ask there is a reason for it. I know they usually want to wait .... but if I just deal them out this will be the time they wanted a hand. If I deal them in they will be annoyed that I dealt them in.

When a new player sits down (and "new" refers to someone just entering the game and NOT someone who you've never seen before) I think it's the dealer's responsibility to ask that player if they would like to A)post(not every game/room automatically deals you in) B) wait for the button to pass. If you leave it up to the player and/or you only ask the players who you're unfamiliar with, it makes for a very inconsistent and problematic situation. Even Psandman says that, that ONE time when he doesn't ask(cause he knows that Billy ALWAYS comes in after the button passes)...will be the time that he actually wants a hand.

Don't leave that stuff up to us. We're unpredictable and will give any reason to take it out on the dealer. It's your game(dealers), take charge of it.

  • Dealers matching stacks to confirm bets without counting down either stack first.
  • Dealers failing to say "Thank you" when receiving a tip.
  • Dealers who can't run their game at a standard pace.
  • Casino staff taking your mostly finished drink without asking if you're done.
  • Casinos that require their staff to move all empty racks as far from the middle of the room as possible.
  • Casinos that still don't have HD televisions or feeds.
  • Weekly tournaments with > 30% juice. Even 20% is disgusting.
  • Players who can't stop themselves from commenting at showdown. "What? Nobody has a spade?"
  • The guy who can't win a pot all night. Except against me.

All these apply to my casino of choice. It's the best in town.

Everyone does this where I play also.

And I haven't seen anyone complain including any dealer (which they would if it were a problem).

This is just a peeve of some players/dealers I guess. It's legitimate if it's going to trow the dealer off. But so far I haven't seen that happen.
Most seem to appreciate it. One less stretch here, one less stretch there add up over the shift.

I have a peeve when people ask the dealer "did I take care of you" the dealer always says 'yes'.

I tell them the correct answer is always 'no'.

But they're too well trained.....go figure.

I see, makes sense the more I think about it. I've always looked right at the dealer and said "button has moved" with my hand on it and wait for confirmation from them that they understand. Never a "stealth" move of the button so to speak hah. If I ever go back, maybe I'll just let them do it from now on out because I had zero clue this would ever be an issue.

Dealers don't complain about button movers bc they don't want to alienate players who think of themselves as dealers little helpers.
Since I've read employee thread in this forum I stopped moving buttons altogether unless a dealer specifically asks me to or when all cards and action are on the other side of the table in which case I let him(her) know loud and clear.

Once in a while a shorter armed dealer will ask for help with the button at the far ends of a table. Other than that, you should let the dealer take care of the button however they prefer. I don't see many button helpers anymore actually. But I don't get out much to mainstream rooms with lots of beginners and tourists.

LOL 'beginners and tourists'.

The old fossils who came with the room are neither beginners or tourists and they're the most likely to 'move the game along'. (They're always in a hurry to fold pre)

I pretty much never do unless asked. But I will say that sometimes I get a look from the dealer like "what are you waiting for". It's that common, especially when you're on the end seats.

I'm gonna go read that thread and see what they're saying about us.....

Then I'll come back here and complain about it.

LOL

Dealers. I love most of them. I probably shouldn't educate myself on how they think.

Kinda glad we don't have a BBJ where I go, seems like it causes all kinds of nightmares with player strategy.

Actually you should instead be glad you don't have a BBJ jackpot where you play, but instead because you don't have to flush a dollar down the toilet every time you win a pot.
