This. If you care about what people think of you for a hit and run, reach into your pocket and grab your phone and pretend someone called you and say "ok, I'll be there as soon as I can" and pretend like you need to leave in a hurry.

I have left before i post any blinds many times, reason for that has been I've been on multiple boards and got a new seat before i post blinds in current game.

I usually get on all lower stakes games until i get a seat in my preferred game, whenever this happens i just say sorry i have a seat at another game and no one has ever said anything about it.

I'd say it depends if you came in on the BB or had to post a BB to enter the game. In that case, you should feel free to leave anytime, you paid a blind to enter the game.

However in some games, you can enter for free, you don't have to post a blind (unless entering on the BB obv). In that case, for etiquette reasons, I would at least let the blinds go through me one time so it doesn't look like a total hit-n-run without even paying a blind. I would just play lockdown through the blinds then leave.

**** etiquette. Were playing for financial gain, not social gain.

You're not there to make friends, you're not there to make people like you. You're there to take their money. Nothing more, nothing less.

Be cold, calculated and ruthless. You can bet your last dollar that nobody will feel sorry for you, if you lose all your money.

Does your view hold true for any poker etiquette issue or are you specifically referring to hitting and running? If its the latter, then I agree; if it's the former, then not so much. For example, I would never slow roll someone even if I knew that it would definitely put him on tilt and thereby make it easier to win more money from him.

Be aware that some of your table mates will grumble, but there isn't anything they can do about it.

If on the other hand you're still playing your A game, and you are outplaying the other players at the table, (and you can adjust to deep stack play) a large stack just means you can win more on future hands.
do NOT rack up and then wait an hour to rebuy into the game for a minimal stack. because then someone WILL hunt your stack. especially if the game is already shorthanded and then you leaving threatens to kill the table.

I've had that happen, I sit down and get AA and we get it all in and I win LOL. I kind of like to at least play for or an hour or 2 so I'd rather just relax instead of going south.

In a live casino, whatever, but in a home game if you want to be invited back never do this. Also why leave so early are you gambling in marginal spots hoping to double up then leave? If you lose do you stay longer and leave once up? It seems you have more to worry about than hit and run etiquette.

Speak for yourself. I am there to have a good time as well. Also, if you happen to sit down with a business acquaintance or a friend's dad or whoever hit n running them would be dumb socially.

I have been in a casino where I was about ready to leave after five hrs of play and then I happen to get it all in and double up (even a little more than double up). I usually play 2 more orbits then rack up and go home.

If you wait until your next big blind, it's not bad etiquette to leave. It's also fine to leave early if you're moving to another table.

Just hitting and running. Slowrolling is dirty, unless it's done in revenge or to a douchebag.

I don't personally hit and run, but I also understand it and don't chide anybody who does.

don't ever do this in a home game that you want to go back to. At a casino people will get upset but it's not their right to tell you how to play or how long to play. It's poor etiquette on their part if they get upset because you no longer wish to play.

Actually I feel kind of good when a bad regular (who usually loses) leaves with a profit every once in awhile. Makes him more likely to keep coming if he can occasionally book a win

You're right, I'm sorry. I understand that some people play for the social aspect, but for a game where the objective is to take each other's money, that concept itself is antithetical to the idea of being friendly and social. I mean, ffs, the idea is to deceive, lie and manipulate people out of their money lol.

First time I played poker I decided to set a clear win limit (stupid I know). If I tripled my stack I would leave. Bought into a limit game with 60 bucks because I was too scared to play no limit and on the first hand I was dealt I hit the nut straight on the flop in a multiway way pot and held on to win. Counted my chips at the end of the hand, had a little over 180 and got up and left. Definitely got a few weird looks and chuckles as people thought I was joking, but I wasn't.

If I see habitual hit and runners in a game, I tell everyone I can.

OK... And? What's going to happen? Are they going to hit 'n run this guy back? Are they going to shame him and goad him into staying longer than he intended?

"MOOOOOOOOM!"

Doubtful, to be honest. It won't matter much. One or two people might care, but most won't GAF.
