You have either 30 seconds or a minute to act, what does this tell you about the opponent who called the clock?

I vote for option 3, they are tired of you doing nothing and want to move on with their lives.

Either:

They have a nut hand, and they want to pressure you to make the wrong call.

or

They have little to nothing, and they'd like you to make a bad fold.

This. By the time I get around to calling the clock on someone I have long ago stopped caring about the specific outcome of the hand, and just want the guy to finish flipping that coin in his head and make a decision already so we can get on with our lives.

Every time that anyone has called the clock on me, it's not because I'm a habitually slow player (I'm not), and it's not because I've been tanking on one decision for too long (I don't do that). It's because they had a strong hand, and they were using the clock as a way to get me to make a bad call.

Whenever an opponent wants to rush your thought process, it's because they're not afraid of either outcome.

It might be skewed in that direction, but it's hardly black and white as your last sentence.

1000000 percent it means they have nothing raise allin.

I have never had a clock called on me.
I have never called a clock on anyone.
Rec Player, cash games, from a No casino state so I only go from time to time.
I can only remember a clock being called twice in the times I went. It was for a player tanking for several minutes.
How common is this (clocking) anyway?
I also think a #3 option (player delays) could be added to the poll.

#3 this isn;t TV, you should have had a plan for the opponents check, raise, or reraise ahead of time...

Calling for a clock is not very common. Not nearly as common as it should.

If it happens frequently to a player it's a good bet that player is exceptionally slow.

IME (and I have been the one with the clock too many times to count) whenever someone has a clock put on them, the majority of the time they fold.

While tanking, I think most ppl want to call but they're trying to talk themselves into doing it so when you call the clock you aren't giving them enough time to talk themselves into it so they fold.

If you don't want them to fold, don't call for a clock.

If someone calls the clock on me, I'd appreciate it if someone at the table would dial 911 immediately.

Because aside from a medical emergency, I can't imagine taking so much time making a decision that someone else thinks it's unreasonable.

A close decision, BY DEFINITION, is one where EV is about the same either way. Like if the EV of Action 1 is +0.05 and Action 2 is +0.04, it doesn't really make a huge difference which action you take, and if you need 1+ minute to determine whether an action is terrible or awesome, yhe extra time probably won't help.

Most of the time, the person on which the clock is getting called wants to pretend the decision could have gone either way. Like they lose and everyone thinks, "well, he was close because he could have gone the other way." And it's a tell that they care what other people think.

Most of the time, the person calling the clock is just sick of waiting. It's a sign that they're impatient or wanting to play some sort of mind games.

1. Don't call the clock.
2. Don't have the clock called on you.
3. ... ?
4. Profit.

This is the case 99.99% of the time. Every time I've called the clock, it has been on an overly slow player and has nothing to do with strategy. Every time I've seen it called, it has been on some dope that the table hates.

I wonder if OP is interested in using the clock as a 'tool'

That is, if the consensus is that calling the clock is a sign of weakness, he will use it as a reverse tell. Call clock when strong, sit there when weak.

While if he has the decision, stall in hope of getting the bettor to call the clock, indicating weakness. If the bettor is very patient and does not call the clock, he is strong and OP can safely fold.

I hope not. Game is too slow as it is.
