Hey everyone! I work at a cardroom and I am trying to get a feel for what new games players would like to see spread in their rooms. If you had the choice to play any of the following games regularly, what game/s would you choose??

A. Pot Limit Omaha with a small, capped buy in. $1/2 blinds and around a $60-$200 buy in. No straddles allowed.

B. $4/$8 H.O.R.S.E

C. $4/$8 Mixed Game or Dealer's Choice

D. 6-Max No Limit Hold 'Em

I would love to hear feedback from everyone in the poker community!! Thanks for your time everyone!

D would be a dream come true if it was the only NLHE format offered in the room, I would love to play ultra passive live regs in a 6-max format. Sadly most of those guys get cranky if there's an empty seat at a table of 10.

Dude this totally depends on the area, I work in a casino as a Poker Dealer and we offer a Omaha game, it has not ran for 9 months since I started work nor has anything besides hold'em. Its a shame but the fact of the matter is that the main attraction to most is tournament poker which is rather frustrating as I definitely find cash games much more interesting.

Work in a Casino in England though and not London so the games are very small.

1/2 PLO $100-500 with run it twice for pots over a certain threshold to keep the player pool from dying out as fast.

B, C. Limits should depend on chip structure. With $1 chips, $4/$8 can be a great game for everyone except the dealer that has to manage those large amounts of chips. With $2 chips, the limits should be bumped up to $6/$12 or $8/$16. 3, 4, 6, or 8 chips going into the pot every bet provides the appearance of a much larger pot then 1, 2, or 4 chips going in.

i would like to see a 3 card omaha spread. would create more action than holdem and not as much variance as 4card plo. would be a nice medium. could have it either pot limit or no limit and must use 2 of the 3 cards

We tried this. It was popular for about a week. I think maybe we've had it run once in the last ~8-10 years. It might have been an interest list 2-3 times. We get a pineapple game once every couple years that occasionally lasts for a few days.

B + C. I'm personally not a big holdem fan. I used to play mostly mixed games on pokerstars before black friday. the bigger issue is getting participation. This may work in rooms with a larger player pool but small rooms prolly don't have a chance of getting these running regularly unless there are a dedicated few who do so

Even though it might create more action than holdem, I think you need to compare it to how other variants of Omaha games tend to play out, because after all it's still Omaha and the players that are likely to flock to this game will be your Omaha players, not holdem players(and I'm naturally talking about the majority). And, if you compare 3 card O to 4 card O, there's naturally going to be heavier action in the 4 card variant because they'll be more possible combinations in which to make a hand(obviously).

...which is why I would like to see a higher limit Big O8 game spread because a lot of players will mistakenly think their hands are stronger than they actually are, because, well, a five card hand is always going to look more appealing/playable than a four card hand, thus creating a lot more action.

D is just never going to happen in a live setting.

A is feasible but the long term viability is questionable because the spread in win rates is so high.

B is okay but C is superior to B, because people playing choice can always choose HORSE. Also HORSE is disproportionately stud games and a lot of people don't like that.

The stakes in the mix should be adjusted to be equal variance. 4/8 LHE, 3/6 LO8, 3/6/0.5 stud, IMO.

I would not spread any of these games. Zero.

Requires a very deep player base to sustain, because the advantage to skilled players is massive. Weak players go broke fast, which is great for the local sharks (who don't care if your room succeeds) but is terrible for a sustainable poker economy (which you *must* care about if you want to run a successful room).

Quote:
B. $4/$8 H.O.R.S.E
High maintenance, slow pace, low profit, and only survives by cannibalizing your more profitable games. Usually offered as an act of desperation -- or simple ignorance -- by unskilled management.

C. $4/$8 Mixed Game or Dealer's Choice
(See B)

D. 6-Max No Limit Hold 'Em
An internet-players' fantasy, unsustainable in a live context. 90%+ of live players simply will not play this short unless forced, and will move to competing rooms or quit playing in the long run. Secondly, simply keeping tables filled requires a deep player base and an automated move system (which is viable for internet poker, but not at all for live rooms). Again, not happening.
