Westgate (Las Vegas) HYPE thread - Page 2 - Poker Card Room

Closing of strip poker rooms. No really good spots of east side of town. Around corner from Las Vegas Convention Center. It can make a lot of sense, but I think they should of waited it out a little bit and actually open that room with a BOOM versus the impression they're giving now.

Which is, it looks like a poker game in a garage.

The answer is Las Vegas has no need for a room with a "Boom". This is basically a convenience room to service hotel guests .... no need to try to be anything big and flashy.

I once worked for someone that liked to explain poker as liver and onions (remember this was before the poker boom, so there were not flashy poker rooms). He talked about when a family wanted to go out to eat after church on Sunday, if the aunt wanted to order liver and onions they would pick a place that had liver and onions even if most of them didn't want it. He viewed poker in a similar manner. Most people that come to Las Vegas are not coming to play poker, but if someone in the group wants to play poker, they will pick a casino with a poker room.

I stopped in the book last night and had a few hours to kill. Was going to play NL, but sadly the only people in the poker room were a dealer and supervisor sitting at a table talking. They were in the same spot when I left approximately 3 hours later.

The pool tables felt like they were short term. They may have a tournament going on and added them just for the week. Speculation, but that's what it felt like.
