Ok- So would like some perspective from everyone.-
So at Canterbury in MN, which is primarily all limit a couple SL games,(thankfully not home poker room)but we were -playing 3-6 kill, and was a pretty lively game. People busted out, we changed it back to a 3/6 no kill, and a local whom I have played before sits down and is known as somewhat of a maniac, but all the dealers know him. Him and I get into a hand, obviously not a huge dramatic pot, but I bet the turn knowing full well there is a straight possibility- he asks the dealer, "can I raise?" and is throwing the chips in for a call- at the same time, then goes back to his stack to throw 6 more out and says raise.
I stop the play, and ask the dealer if in fact that was a string bet, to which his reply was no, he said raise. The seat on the other side agreed with me saying no, he asked if he could while throwing in chips, to which the dealer just kinda shrugged his shoulders. I know at this point I could have called the floor for a ruling, but it was obvious I was behind, I folded, stated my stance and racked up and left but I contend that the dealer should have stopped play and made a decision or called the floor, because he was a regular, it seemed like it was "ok".
Thoughts?
Its a string raise. Plus I feel there sghould be a penalty for asking stupid questions.... a regular player who facing a single bet asks "can I raise?" should get a punch in the face.
So Mister ... "I'll see your 20 ... and raise you 40" Seems OK to me ...
You're a semi-reg, he's a reg and you are all playing the 'regular' game. There is always going to be 'respect' (looseness) for the flow of the game when regs are involved. IMO this is usually reserved for higher stake games but could apply to any game.
OP, if you are consistent with your desire for the rules to be applied as laid out then I see no issue here one bit ... string raise 100%. But if if we are playing a 'friendly' game and then choose to step in when convenient it can create some tension at the table.
Although a bit more sketchy for sure, this falls into our 'betting line' and 'cut and paste' chips conversations from earlier this month. Do we really want to raise a stink if it's a player we want to keep at the table?
