Slow-rolling for information? Slow-rolling for information?

Live 1-2 NL game, preflop... Player A raises, Player B reraises, Player A goes all in for a decent amount more.

Player B waits about 30 seconds, watching Player A, then calls and ends up tabling AA.

When someone else asked Player B why he slow-rolled instead of snap-calling with AA, he said he wanted to wait and observe Player A's behavior after making an all-in bet. In other words, he was trying to pick up on strength / weakness tells for future situations.

Never really hard that one before. I guess it's reasonable if you're some sort of body language soul-reader... thoughts on whether this is a justified slow-roll?

Are you sure he wasn't trying to get a read on the dealer so he wouldn't get sucked out on?

So now he "knows" that Player A will react in manner X when holding hand Y and waiting for a player of type Z to call or fold to his 4 bet shove of amount W (on Thursday at 7:43 pm after having just finished eating a double order the Kung Pao Chicken and the Patriots leading, but not covering vs the Jets).

I don't think a 1/2 player is that advanced where he can look for that kind of a read and know how to use it.

It looks more like he didn''t like the guy and he wanted to rub the aces in his face like that.

I can see this as a reasonable explanation, but don't expect to make any friends doing it.

But it also exactly like something a 1/2 player would say in the absurd logic thread. I'd bet there's a reasonable chance it's exactly what he thought he was doing

It was a slowroll. The honesty of the explanation can be tested by observing other behavior, esp. other slowrolls.

Those who justify don't convince

guess I'm fine with this but he should let the guy know in some way that he has him first. Also really there are better times to get a read then when your in the hand and have the nuts

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the observing?

This is never okay, and I do believe the guy's motives. Motive or not, he's still guilty of a slowroll and should be looked at accordingly.

This is just reason #4218 why I hate NL holdem cash games.

no question it is a slowroll, the real question is the merit of it. As others have posted, given the number of variables how much information does the player hope to gain out of watching his opponents reaction for that long?

I tend to not say a word to slowrollers - in my experience those are some of the worst players at the table and I want them to stay around to keep playing

The other reason not to say a word to them is that they are looking for reactions.... They want to get someone upset, or they think its funny and they want people to laugh ... whatever it is they are looking to get attention ... so if you give it to them you are rewarding them. Just pretend like nothing happened and they will eventually realize that being a douche isn;t getting them the attention they want.

I believe that Player B was being honest with his intentions, but, that still doesn't mean that he wasnt slowrolling and/or displaying an act of poor ettiquette.

Whatever. *shrug*

FYP. I agree with your approach, but I'm less optimistic about the outcome.
