Hello,

So a russian guy was playing this week on the casino 50/100 NL and loosing a lot, some spanish guys "caught" him someday and made a private table. 7 spanish, 1 italian, the fish and one empty seat. This on the casino with everyone to see and no one can join the game because they wont let.

You can only imagine what the 7 spanish who know each other can and will do to have the fish money

I think although its not stars fault, i think they must do something about that since they care about weaker players so much

Stars? You want Poker Stars or poker Pros to step in and save the Russian?

Casinos can have private tables if allowed by the governing agency .. if they even find out .. so I'm not sure anyone can really step in. Taking advantage of weaker players has been going on for a very long time. Sometimes it is difficult to see these things go on for sure. GL

It's not exactly unheard of to run a bigger game 9 handed even if the room has 10 handed tables

I feel like OP is suggesting that, merely because of the 7 Spaniards' shared language and acquaintanceship with each, they could be expected to collude against the Italian. Thus, the private table should not be allowed.

Pretty loose assumption, if you ask me.

Italian and spanish are pretty similar languages. I am pretty sure the Italian understands spanish. But the Russian guy prolly doesn't.

Playing 9 handed isn't uncommon and the same goes for trying to get a weak player sit in your game and fill up the other seats to make it impossible for other strong players to join.

Their bread and butter is from full time pros who play 24 tables 24/7, not a weaker player who plays one table one hour a week.

Isn't English the official language of stars? call a moderator.

Pretty sure they probably were chatting in Spanish (or Catalan) because they were in the casino in Barcelona. I think the "call stars" suggestion is because Stars sponsors/runs the EPT which was at the casino at the time. I think when the EPT is in town they effectively (or actually) take over running the cash games too.

Dunno about Casino Barcelona but usually the cash game rules are set by the casino even when an external tournament series runs, and almost always chat in the countries first language is allowed

Every EPT stop I know of, allows players in cash games to talk English or in the native language of that country.

Except for France, where lots of players and casino employees refuse to speak English, I'd say English is the dominant language during EPT events. Both on and off the table. But if you have 7 spanish guys at a game in Spain, you should expect them to talk spanish to each other.

I think the "scam" is that there are 10 seats around the table, 9 players but they won't allow a 10th to join.

So not so much "scam" or "protect the weak players" as "I wanted to get some of the whale's money and I couldn't"

That depends on whether the casino/jurisdiction allows private games. In Florida, there are casinos that allow private games. In those games, there's nothing "fishy" about denying someone entry into a private game.

Overall I'd prefer that anyone be allowed into any game (provided of course that they haven't been banned previously for cause), but in places where private games are allowed there's nothing "fishy" about players being excluded.

...
