In mid July, the wife and I will be on a 2 week trip to the west coast. I'd love some tips on where to play poker.

We start with 3 days in Vegas. I have that part covered as far as where to play.

From there we fly to San Fran and then we will be driving up to Seattle over a 10 day period. We will be doing plenty of things other than poker, but I should be able to get in a few 3-4 hr sessions along the way.

I think Ive already identified Graton as the first place I'll play. Any advice on where to play 2/5 as we move north?

Portland - great place to play poker. Rake-free games, lots of 1/2 and a decent amount of 2/5. There are occasionally mix games. Earlier this week I played Omaha Hi, Big O, 6 Card Omaha Hi/Lo, and Holdem, all no-limit. Check out Final Table, PDX Poker Club. PM me and I can talk to you about possible mix.

Seattle - try Tulalip and Muckleshoot, both of which offer NL. Not sure about other games. Casinos in the city of Seattle typically spread Limit Holdem, Fixed-Limit Holdem, and Limit Omaha 8. The Fixed Limit Holdem games are capped, and the max bet or raise is typically $20, although I've seen a low as $12. On Friday evenings the Hideaway in Shoreline has a 3-100 Fixed Limit Holdem game.

California - not sure, but it's supposedly the mecca of live poker. I'm sure any and all of the major casinos will serve your needs.

Rake-free games? How or why do they do that?

I believe those are small "social clubs" that charge a daily "membership fee" to get around gambling laws. Often attached to bar/restaurant.
