The thought of standing up myself did occur to me, but again my intention was not to cause a further disruption at the table.
Others have suggested I should have just ignored it; the above advice is the opposite. I tried to split the difference by taking it up with the floor *away* from the table.
Really, this is not so much a question about whether I handled it perfectly, but to understand what the usual policy is in case I encounter it again somewhere.
My own understanding/assumption was that you have to be in your seat to be dealt cards. Getting up to stretch your legs is obviously normal, though not every single hand. Getting up from the table during a hand to see better or wait for a big all-in to get run out is obviously common, and no big deal.
From the sound of things, there is no universal rule on standing. Most casinos in my experience do have catch-all rules, however, which allow them to address behavior which is not specifically addressed in their language but is otherwise disruptive in some way.
