Okay so a new game is in my local card room it's called I think river down holdem. Basically it's like Texas holdem except river card does not get dealt face up as a community card. Everyone gets a third card and last betting round and showdown. Has anyone played or heard this type of poker game ? Anything on strategy or any information would be great. I tell you one thing this game gets JUICYYYYYYY!
Thanks in advance
I tried searching everywhere for this game it's probably called something else

When we played this at the LLSNL meet-up game, we called it Stud-em. Was much fun, but we only played one round of it, so not much strategy to impart.

There was a game called No-River Holdem that I remember they tried to spread at one of the vegas casinos but I think you got three down cards to begin with .... I'm not sure any more as its been a long time.

Interesting .. Are there hole card 'requirements' like in Ohmaha?

I wanted to play some NLHE and expose the burn cards. I think it could go either way ... add or subtract to most of the pots. GL

Can you play any number of board cards against any number of hole cards to make your five-card hand? If so, reading the board on the river is dramatically different than hold'em.

Now, it only takes two gapped cards on board to make a straight, two to a suit to make a flush, and no pair required for a full house. You will almost never have the nuts on the end, even if you had it on the turn.

In theory, this should put a huge premium on skilled river play if you're playing no-limit or pot-limit. Fixed-limit, a little but not nearly as much.

Yes, best 5-card hand. 3-down and 4 up, like in 7-card stud, it's just that the 4 up are community cards.

Nope. Never heard of it... but now I'm intrigued

Will introduce at the next dealers choice spread limit game. Quads possible on every deal... they'll love it. Now to figure out what common winning hands are going to be and avoid paying to draw to 2nd best...

Is this being spread anywhere close to California? It looks like a fun variation and would love to check it out...

Is your local card room a friends back yard? Did the plaque say mix?

In our occasional home game (limit) we play multi-card holdem.

Sometimes four cards in each player's hand.

Five.

When we are short, six.

Wouldn't much like it for no-limit though.
