The server should wait on you. You are doing two different things to make money for his employer who pays him his wages plus his waiting might mean a bigger tip for him.

Poker second, server third. However, pretty drink girls with big boobs go first.

I think the young whippersnappers call it multitasking.
It's more impressive the other way around - look at the menu for a tough food decision and 3-bet with your other hand while looking away.

Is it similar or even worse that the burger joint attached to the casino I play in has two regular employees that work behind the bar that know my order and usually put it in when they see me walking around the corner? They have the order in and my drink usually before I even sit down, lol. It has gotten so bad (good?), that they gave me their personal cell phone numbers so I can just text in my order from the poker table. That way it is usually ready with in a minute or two of me getting there and sitting down. I do tip $10 on a $15 order though, so it is all good for both of us.

I think it's more likely due to your generous tip than you being a degenerate poker player(which would be good, of course).

If that irritates the server, express your displeasure in your tip.
Nailed it, They should have been trained to let you finish you hand before engaging you.

If you're bluffing, make your order or pay/tip, etc.
If you're strong, ignore the server and let the other 7 players at the table tell her that you're in a hand. When she comes back, apologize and let her know you were in a hand.

Orrrr...take one second to acknowledge the server, then pay your bluffs and value hands exactly the same. Your call.

If you like money then playing exploitably is better. It's not about being rude. As other in this thread have explained, servers know where they're working and they understand when someone is in a hand they can't always talk. You can able be polite when you're outside of the hand, tip well, and you'll be 100% fine.

In the US a very high percentage of the server's income is from tips. Making her wait too long is taking money out of her pocket unless you increase your usual tip to compensate.

Yes, most will wait if they are aware that you know they are there and involved in a hand. A simple acknowledgement that you see them there is all it takes. Doing it your way of just ignoring them puts them in a no win situation. If they don't assert themselves, it is bad customer service, because maybe the player didn't see them and is wanting to order. If they do assert themselves, it is bad customer service, since maybe they are interrupting a player. A simple 'Hold on, I'm in a hand' is all it would take to sidestep the whole issue.

And are you saying that your mental game is really so weak that the amount of cycles it takes to say 'Hold on, I'm in a hand' will affect your ability to make a quality decision?!?!?!? Poker is a game of absrobing and reacting to dozens of concurrent data feeds. Are you saying that you lack the capacity absorb the information that a server is waiting on you, and you don't have the bandwidth to acknowledge them and ask them to wait?

I want to play with you.

5-5-10 PLO in LA cardrooms 5 days a week. Pretty easy to play with me.

And no, I literally said nothing that could give you the impression that I think that interrupting my hand to communicate with a server will affect my ability to make a quality decision. If you're reads are that bad on the table, please please come join the games. You could make lots -- game of the future you know.

Navigating such a difficult social situation as "Just a moment, please" sure is tough.

So yes, you are saying that to play exploitably, sometimes, you can't talk.

Talking to a server differently when you have a bluff vs value hand is exploitable, but it has nothing to do with making decisions and everything to do with the way that people deal with non-poker things when they have various strength hands.

This thread is becoming extremely nitty.

C'mon now, does everything have to boil down to drama? Yeah, everyone can read your soul if you order your food a certain way.

Okie dokie.

If you don't think that there are live tells related to food / interaction with servers, that's fine.

We can bring it back to the topic of the thread: etiquette. At the end of the day, you're the customer and it is the job of the server/establishment to serve you. In response, you have a social obligation to be polite and should tip well. Clearly, for different people that means different things. Just don't be a jerk and you'll be fine, whether you choose to immediately take care of it, ask them to come back, or let them figure out that you're occupied with a hand.

Or how about just not eating at the table, you can actually eat away from the poker table. It is almost always disruptive when someone is eating a meal at the poker table. Take a break with your comp and enjoy your food. Poker will always be there when you are done eating.
I personally LOVE poker rooms that do NOT allow eating at the poker table.

If put to a big decision and the server is cut, what you do is toke her with most of your remaining chips and ask her for her number. Then, call with your remaining full chips going all-in.

I hardly ever eat/drink while playing, but on those few occasions I have & the server shows up while I'm in a hand a simple "give me a second" usually works for me....

You run a good card room. In what part of the US is it located?
