Poker in Berlin? Poker in Berlin?

Are there any official poker rooms in Berlin, like casinos?

What games do they spread, what is the rake and how long do they operate every day? Do they close or are open 24/7.

What is the best place to play live poker in Germany?

Yes there are. Search for "Berlin" in the german forum or feel free to ask there in englisch - most germans will understand and reply in english.

on weekends they start earlier. a lot of fish, tourists etc. 2/2 and 5/5 NL are the regular games i think. havent been there for a while. rake is pretty high. they have 10 tables or so running. also dayly donkaments.

Do not - repeat - not go to the Casino at Alexanderplatz.

This article tells you why.

It's in German, but it should work with Google Translate.

Are there any updates?

Spielbank Berlin at Potsdamer Platz is still there. Same goes for their smaller, crappier locations at Alexanderplatz and Hasenheide in Neukölln. The latter two locations offer games as low as 1/1.

There's not too much change going on in a world where only the government is allowed to operate casinos.

Hi guys, this thread has been for a while, hope I could still get some respond
I'm visiting Berlin from 29th March to 20th April for grinding NLHM at Spielbank Berlin Potsdamer

Now I'm looking for economic accommodation around that area
For really cheap price's backpacker hotel, I found this link: http://budgettraveller.org/best-budget-places-berlin/ ; however, it does not noted the exact location and transport convenience (no car)

So, does anyone know any affordable friendly quality backpacker hotel nearby the poker room casino, please recommend

I was in Berlin in December and stayed at a hotel in Potsdamer Platz, just a few blocks from the casino. I didn't notice any budget backpacker type hotels in the area (although, admittedly, I wasn't really looking). However, there is a U-Bahn stop right there, so you could stay in another section of the city and then just take mass transit to Potsdamer Platz. BTW, they don't have poker during the day there, just at night. (I believe the tables opened at 6:00pm every night, including weekends.)

Poker tables at Spielbank Berlin Potsdamer Platz open at 6 on weekdays and at 4 on weekends.

Potsdamer Platz is not a backpacker area. Hotels around there basically cater to business travelers and first time tourists. Same applies to most parts of Mitte.

Most younger tourists stay in Friedrichshain or Kreuzberg, but there are also options in Wedding (the closer to Mauerpark the better) and Moabit. Personally, I would look at Friedrichshain close to Oberbaumbrücke. Kreuzberg is on the other side of that bridge. There's a 'Plus Hostel' that has rooms for ~50€/night but also way cheaper options like Pegasus that has beds in the 20€/night range.

Potsdamer Platz has S-Bahn (the fastest option for longer distances), U-Bahn (subway) and bus stops and Berlin is comparable to cities like New York in the sense that 'regular' people use public transportation.

Follow lex' advice on where to stay. The area around the casino, in short, sucks, and is not great for anything but the casino.

Thanks a lot, guys
Jesus, non 24h poker room in city as large as Berlin is bizarre, well, I guess 6pm-4am is better than 8am-5pm at Stockholm lol
I will probably stay at Ibis budget Berlin Potsdamer Platz (~50€) at beginning since I'm a total stranger, literally do not speak a word of German, and super frustrated with English popularity so far lol
BTW, since my return flight booked is departing from Frankfurt, how do you guys compare game action/EV between Spielbank Berlin Potsdamer Platz and Wiesbaden?

Yes there is a poker room at Berlin. You can try pokerfloor or pokerlounge. If you want a casino try Spielbank Berlin.

In Berlin I'd guess ~50% ppl speak at least some basic English, so shouldn't be too much of a problem. In Chemnitz that percentage is probably much lower (most people in Saxony can't even speak proper German ).
The Spielbank in Wiesbaden is recommended. Only for the pokers much better than Berlin, much lower rake and decent action. Also the lowest game is 2/4. But I've not been there very often. Only things are some weird 1% pot mandatory tip, not sure if that is still going on, and their poker chips are really crappy, kinda lightweight small one color roulette chips

At least in the tourist areas of all of Mitte, Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain and Prenzlauer Berg (aka pregnant hill). Not so sure about the outer districts like Köpenick or Marzahn. But there's no real reason to go there anyway.

I played in Spielbank Berlin Potsdamer Platz in October last year. You have regular cash games going on. I believe min stakes are 2/2. Not sure how high do they go

Thanks again, gents
So, I check in to Berlin for two days now, misunderstood "weekend open at 4pm" so here I am waiting at Casino on Friday for 2 hours (#Friday is not weekend in Europe) lol

For past two days, there isn't any NLHM higher than 2/2 happened (2/4plo once), they charge 2.5€ entrance fee, 9€ for a bottle of water inside, the action is relatively dry and a lot of short steak buying in from 100€~200€

The first hand I play, there was a straddle, 5 limpers and I have AdAc on BB, raise to 44€, UTG+3 short steak limper all in for 52€, CO limper re-raise to 145€ (~150€ behind), I tank for 75 seconds and all in, CO snaps call, board AA48K, I show my quads instantly after the river is dealt, and another old German guy on the table say I slow roll CO because I should show right after the flop lol

After that hand I was literally card dead for 3 hours, player on my table start calling me a nit in German lol, so later in a straddled pot I open 16€ MP with 9h3h, fold around to straddle call the extra 12€, heads up to the flop
Flop came out AdKc5s, see bet €22 take down the pot and show my hand, that old dude call me slow roll start to be talkative in German xd

Right next hand I pick up AsAc again UTG+2 in a straddled pot, +1 limp and I open to €36, BN call and heads up to the flop
Flop came QhQdJc, BN shows a massive tale, goes check-check, turn Ts goes check-check, river Jd I check BN bet €40 I gto cry call he shows AhQc, somebody whispered "karma" on the table and I lol

Card dead for another 5 hours, got JJ runs into QQ and QQ into KK, move to 2/4 PLO table at 2am, pick up 45TK no suit on BB,flop comes 45Q rainbow, check to TAG on BN bet €10, me and CO call
Turn Tc bring a backdoor club draw, I donk lead 50€, LP on CO call, BN fold
River off suit Q, I tilt blocker bluff 76€ and CO fold

Poker room close at 3am and I end up the session with 86€ lost, should have hit&run after flopping quads A's the first hand lol

P.S: Hesenhide park's Arabic guy seriously sell some over-priced/false weight/****ty grass

P.P.S: somebody still in Berlin wanna hang out for Breakfast/Supper at 3am, or got some juicy home game connection to refer? Much appreciated

Ha, you are fast to find the seedy spots Dunno about the current state but usually in that park you have a lot of competition, so it should be ok. People may be taking advantage of you obv not being local and not knowing the lay of the land though.

As for the pokers, welcome to our world. It's tough to find decent games with decent rake anywhere outside America, in Germany you often have neither. It's also tough to find a lot of non-weekend/holiday action anywhere in central Europe. But weekends should be better.

Cant meet up as I am in East Asia now but have fun in Berlin and explore the town at least a little. Berlin is great for many things, but the casino is probably not one of them.

Too bad FWWM, were you in Korea playing tournaments and switch to Macau/Manila? Some of my friends are on that trip as well
All the best, m8
