I have been playing a lot more live poker recently but I find it super boring at times. I was wondering if it is ok for me to bring my laptop or ipad or something and multi table online while playing live.

It depends on the Casino.

There's a guy around here who has a Lenovo tablet and plays on 10 tables on Chico while he sits at 1/2

Seems like a great way to keep the table social and fun.

Please do everyone a favor and stay home regardless of whether they'd allow you to play online.

Didnt realize it was my responsibility to be social and keep the table entertained. Just because you personally dont like someone doing it doesnt mean others cant.

Yeah this is going to come down to a casino's rules for cell phone/tablet use. If you're allowed to use those, you'll probably fine.

Many players don't realize that. It's a problem.

It depends on what you want from poker.

If you want to make the most money, it is your responsibility.

I do this sometimes on my phone. It's a little different because it's an underground club that also hosts an online club game, and often people at the game live are playing the online game too. Club doesn't mind because they're double raking us.

While I do this, I admit it's bad for the live game for a few reasons:
1. I don't play as well live while playing online, even though it's only one table open.
2. I'm not so bad about this, but some people do slow down the live game when focused on their phone.
3. It's obnoxious to people who aren't playing online too.

Would you touch your phone in a restaurant? Obviously you're not there to entertain people but it is such a buzz kill to see some douchebag constantly on his phone, especially if the dealer has to keep reminding him it is his turn.

If you think this is all "our opinion", stay home. Nobody wants to have other people at the table take out his laptop and start doing other things.

If you are losing money while playing you can be as unsocial as you want to. If you go to the casino to win money and don't understand why you want to be social, it's probably a waste of time to try to explain.

you said your games are boring. They're boring because no one likes to interact with other humans (especially the young "grinder") because they somehow believe they're better than everyone else. I'm sure that's not you but that is why your game is boring.

Open up a little bit, start or engage in a conversation and joke around a little and believe me you will have a much better time at the table.

For those of you who are boggled at the idea that winning poker involves social skills, consider this:

Whale type really enjoys his fun - doesn't really care where he has it, doesn't care if he loses a ton of money, he just wants to have fun.

He comes into the poker room, gets a seat, and is at a table with 9 other guys in hoodies with headphones on and phones out. Dealer welcomes him to the table. Nobody else notices.

Nobody talks except to bet, otherwise their attention is in their cellphone, and the outside world isn't just ignored, it's *blockaded*.

Know what whale does?

Gets up, goes and plays blackjack, or craps, or something where you can't sit there like a self-absorbed tool and live in your digital screen all day.

Congratulations - your ardent refusal to be remotely social has cost you money.

*Edit to add: BTW - I SUCK at social skills - and I can't talk sports to save my life - but I'm smart enough to keep at least one ear open and my phone put away.

I saw a guy doing this. He was wearing headphones too. 9 out of 10 times the action was on him he had to be prodded. Half of those times a neighbor had to physically poke him because he couldn't hear the dealer. Nine people at the table (10 including the dealer) wished he had stayed home.

If you can do this wthout slowing down action (which you can't), you are more than welcome to do this at any table I am at. I will take the negative of another brooding grinder wannabe in exchange for a player who can't focus and has to purposefully distract himself to stay awake. I am pretty certain a guy who is playing online and live isn't really making reads or tracking action for the players at the live table, so have at it.

Like everything else in poker, it depends. If you can stay focused on the live game and not slow things down, then the more you are distracted from the game, the better it is for me. Thank you for giving me another advantage.

The issue is that most people get absorbed on-line and have to be reminded that the action is on them. The worst are the ones that start asking, "aah, who bet and how much?" The best rule would be that you would be allowed to do it, but would only get one warning if you are delaying the game. Treat it like calling the clock. If it is a couple of seconds, no big deal. Don't call it. If it is "too much," you get a warning. The second time you are warned you have to either leave the table or shut off the devices.

I'm sure most casinos allow it. Just don't be mad when you open to 10x the BB with one of your 4 starting hands and nobody calls.

Also, real estate is typically limited at the table (more so if you are playing ten handed). You could get away with a tablet or slate, but you would be hard pressed to be able to use a laptop without creating space issues at the table.
