Player is playing a game on his phone,
And doesnt act until you call his name, even if he already called pre and flop is opened.
How do you dealers deal with this?
Make a comment to the player? Call the floor?
After how many attempts to get his attention is this kind of behavior punishable?

Any more than one warning is too many. This has a direct and negative effect on other customers, so the dealer and floor should put a stop to it immediately.

If I recall, you're always asking about home game stuff?

In a casino, if you're not using hyperbole and the guy is literally wasting everyone's time every single time it's on him, I'd imagine the floor would have to get involved.

First time: "Hey man, the action's on you."

Second time: "Hey, Candy Crush, the action's on you."

Third time: "Hey, *******, the action's on you."

Positives: He is likely not paying good attention to the game so might be a good donator to let do his thing.

Negatives: Certainly a bit annoying, but also delaying action for the table. Likely this is too much to allow to continue despite maybe some occasional benefit from a distracted player.

Yeah , needs to called out on this most of the time.

If I was the dealer I would be so tempted to muck his hand and see when he notices.

The dealers have to enforce the room rules, but the 'smart' ones will hopefully know the player and not do something that will 'hurt' the table's wishes.

If fish/whale then you let him be 'happy' and allow the players to take advantage.

If nit/i***t/a*****e then muck his hand or deal him out.

Plenty of dealers who would go both ways here ... and I actually respect both approaches as long as they are consistent when they are at the table. GL

IME, the vast majority of players who constantly watch something on their device or play or surf the internet are nits. They are not super hard to read because it's easy to notice when they suddenly get excited, but especially in high rake games you can't profit too much from them anyway.

I've been so tempted (as a player) to just reach over and muck his cards when I'm sitting next to this guy. Double with the guy who's watching a movie on his ipad. Specially if I could do it on the turn after he's called a big flop bet.

Get his phone number. When the action is on him, call him at the table and tell him it's his action. Should be embarrassing enough with the whole table looking at him.

I think you are right most of the time , but I have certainly seen the other side (inattentive fools blowing off stacks) too. All in all , however, I think some effort to get the guy off his phone and into the game is usually the best move for the good of the table.

Meanwhile, the dealer is not getting tipped while the annoying player is taking-up time. Nowadays I see about 5 people on their phone at any given time, and they range from nits, recs, semi-pros, and pros, but they all act in turn with perhaps one scolding every few hours.
