Was playing in a tournament in my local casino in Dublin, Ireland and this hand came up.

Blinds are 50/100
I have approx 5k
Villian covers.

I am in BB, 2 limpers in EP and Villain on button limps. SB folds(?!) and i look down at AKo. I raise to 450 total. Folded to Villain who flat calls. Flop is QQQ. I lead out for 1100. Villain calls. Turn is Q. I shove. Button snap calls. I assume at this point his weaker Ace got there for the chop, so i say, "chop chop i guess". He says "yep guess so", and turns over J8o. I turn over AKo looking shocked. J on river, he jumps up and pumps his fists, "YES BABY!!!". Dealer pushes me the chips. Villain looks on in shock until he realises his mistake. Total silence at the table, then someone says, "Owned".

Fairly early in the tournament, I'd just lost a good size chunk of my stack to set over set a few hands ago... I think I had about 13 or so bb left.

Anyways, the cards are dealt and with 4 limpers to me I wake up on the button with Kh Jh and raise it 3x bb. The blinds fold and the limpers call.

Flop comes down 9h 2c 5s
It checks around to me, and I check.

Next card is the Qh.

Checks around to me again and I shove for my remaining 9bb or so. It folds around to the final limper who thinks hard about it and eventually calls (roughly 3/4 of his stack).

He turns over 7c4c... very puzzled I turn my cards over and ask him why he called....

Him: "I thought you were bluffing"

Me: And you called me down with 7 high?

Him: Well we both have 6 outs!

Me: ...

He of course ends up hitting his 4 (non-hearts) on the river... good thing they allowed re-buys.

WTF dude, why shove turn instead of checking and taking free river to try and make your flush? YOU'RE ON THE BUTTON!

playing 1-2nl at FW i think it may even be my first hand at the table. i pick up Q10 in the BB and after 5 or 6 limpers i check my option. Flop AK10 and it checks around. turn J and it puts 2 to a suit out. i bet out 10 into the 11 out there and guy who limped somewhere in MP calls. river J and i decide not to pay an extra dollar to the rake so i check and other guy checks back with like 87o or some hand that had no pair no draw. other players are like WTF, why did you call the turn. he said because i had a gutshot straight draw. someone then decided to enlighten him that he was calling to chop and he agreed and said i know there would be a straight on the board but ill win half the pot.

Here's a good one:

1/2 game. Player 1 is all in with A5. Player two has AJ. Board shows A22. Turn is 7, river is a Q. There was about $300 in the pot. Player 1 thought he lost until it was brought to his attention that the Q kicker played and it was a chop. He looks down at the table for a second and says, "I don't care... This is an unorthidox game." He walks away from the table. Merry X-mas player 2.

Live tourney in a pub £20 rebuy.

I went just knowing that the standard will be lolbad but was surprised when the guy to my direct left seemed to have a clue, well he was talking a good game anyway, untill.......

In a blind v blind situation (he was sb) he leads 3 times into the station of a BB before shoving river (board showed rags) BB tank folds.

He then shows an outrageous bluff and says with an air of superiority "i only made that play cos i had position"

I was like "wait... what?"

He says " O ya whoever bets 1st normally wins the pot so has position"

Suffice to say i just nodded

2/4 LHE game I was dealing today the ten seat says the mathematically worst bet in the entire casino is to raise AA when you are the big blind. Someone at the table tried arguing for a few seconds until the guy said he had spreadsheets and the math to prove it.

5/10 LIMIT AT THE BORGATA...GUYS SITS DOWN...WEARING SUNGLASSES, UNLIT CIGAR IN HIS MOUTH, TWOGLASSES OF CHAMPAGNE IN HIS HANDS AND HIS GIRL ON HIS SIDE... CALLS EVERY HAND AND RAISE FOR ONE TIME AROUND THE BOARD. LOSES EVEY HAND AND THEN ASKS THE TABLE, "WHERE ARE THE JOKERS? I HAVEN'T SEEN ANY JOKERS YET AND I ALWAYS GET THEM AT HOME." NO ONE SAID A THING. HE BLEW FOUR BUY-INS IN 30 MINUTES AND LEFT. THE TABLE BROKE INTO THE BIGGEST LAUGH I HAD HEARD AT A TABLE IN A LONG TIME.

$50 11am MTT at the Hilton in AC. 2 tables left if I remember, and it wasnt a big tournament, probably 6 tables total. This old lady is to my right, and my friend is to her right. She was very short and she kept showing us her hands. She has 4bbs left, gets AK utg+1 FOLDS. Shows us and tells us, she will wait for a better hand.

Also, when they posted the payouts, its obviously top heavy and very few places got paid and she saw the first payout (prob like $700) and she goes "wow, thats too much. They shoul pay out more people. Really, that is too much to win. IM JUST GOING TO PLAY FOR SECOND"

I then make final tbl, am heads up with over 2 to 1 advantage, offer the guy a deal and he wants an EVEN split. I say hell no, and its just a crapshoot from then on, and he wins.

haha thats funny, I havent read the whole thread so I dont know if this has been mentioned, but- I used to play live poker a lot a few years ago. One thing I saw very frequently was players raising 8x with JJ. I guess you could put this range on 88-JJ too. Obv everyone would fold, unless they woke up with QQ+. When the players made these raises an everyone folded, they tabled JJ and would say "woo, didnt wanna see a flop"

Unfortunately I was the dealer so no side bets for me. It took all of my might to not start laughing at this guy at the table. Even the other fools at 2/4 LHE knew this guy was an idiot.

Sorry for the absurd Blackjack example. Last night a player double-downed on a blackjack / 21. When I politely asked why, the answer "....cause I felt like it." He was sober.

If you are counting cards, doubling down on a soft 21 can be mathematically correct.

I'd like to know when, exactly, since 21 is a perfect result in any case.

Blackjack doesn't pay 2-1, it pays 3-2 (at least in Atlantic City). I assume this is why it can be profitable to double down. If the count is in your favor you can win two "bets" instead of 1.5. I don't play blackjack at all let alone count card though.

yesterday playing with some friends with something that would be like 5US.

ME: AQ. raise. some limpers
flop A2Q, bet, someone calls.
turn 3 bet, same caller
river: A..
I overbet the pot, and this guy insta calls, to show a "straight" consisting of QKA23
of course everyone at the table was like...WTF....

If the count is ridiculously positive (meaning the ratio of tens to not tens is very very high), and the dealer is showing a bust card like a six then it's +EV to double down because it pays 2:1 instead of 3:2. I'm not sure what the exact count has to be, it's rule dependent, and I don't play bj, but I know the magic number exists.
