I think shoving +75BB pre primarily because the cards are suited is an example of pretty absurd thinking.

You didn't hear the thinking stated or play justified, so it doesn't really fit with the theme of this thread.

Sure, but from the description, we have no idea about any details of the hand or any clue as to how the guy with the suited hand perceived the AK guy. Plus, calling a +75BB pre flop shove with AKo is at least as absurd as shoving with Q9s if not more absurd.

who called with AKo? the guy with 'suited cards' limped from early, mp raised 6x bb, I called, suited cards guy min-reraised, mp folds, I go all in pretty certain his range is super wide and he goes ai for not too much more.

on "AK" hand mentioned was me stating I guess it could be considered less than absurd if he had AKcc

Adding these details to your original post would've avoided a lot of needless speculation.

noted.. apologies.

honestly didn't think it was too relevant as I thought the guy simply saying "I have clubs" was enough. I've heard "I have a pair" or "do you have a pair? ok you're ahead".. but first time I've ever heard "I've got clubs".

same. my opinion, AK is a tournament hand more than a cash table hand when it comes to getting it in..

that being said, if I had AK against the "I have clubs" guy, I simply could never fold preflop. he was such a maniac, having any type of hand at any point of the action was nearly impossible to fold.

another hand he showed, before my hand, he called a +200 ai with two other people already shoving, with A3dd... oh and he won with a flush.

Ok you take the guy who calls 75BB with AK on your table, I will take the spazmonkey who jams it in pre with Q9s on my table. I think I make more profit.

Speaking of absurd thinking..........

I'm sure you super hard to play against when your 4!+ range is exactly big pocked pairs

true enough, but I'm not doing either with 75+ BB in a tournament, let alone a cash game.

To get things back on track...

I remember playing LHE on 2 different occasions and there was a drunk guy(different guys) playing every hand blind and playing super aggressive. People would leave the table because they didn't want to play a drunk aggressive player playing blind.

Re: Most absurd poker "thinking" you have heard in a live game?

1/3 NL there is a guy at the table who is raising every hand he plays to $50 preflop. He's playing 70%+ of his hands regardless of limpers/raises in front of him. A couple of us are just waiting to limp with a big hand, let him raise and then shove on him and sure enough, the guy next to me picks up a hand and limps. Aggro guy makes it $50 and there is a caller at the other end of the table who is relatively new to the table.

Hero ships it for $300+ in and aggro guy folds. By hero's actions, body language, the way he is holding his cards in the air (not protecting them) he has AA 100% of the time here, there is zero doubt he has anything but AA. Villain at the other end of the tanks for a while before finally making the call.

Villain sees the AA and says "I really thought you were trying to buy it and I couldn't just let you" as he flips up 22.

Re: Most absurd poker "thinking" you have heard in a live game?

HJ straddles to $10, BU opens to $30, I 3-bet to $100 from the BB, HJ calls the $100, BU ships for ~$900, I ship for $55 more. BU calls having both of us covered. BU wins the hand with AA vs. my KK. HJ had called with AQs saying he "was hoping we both had KK."

Just want to +1 this for the people who dont get to play live as much and might not believe this.

I've personally seen this happen many times playing live NL over the years.

+2
Last Saturday night at 1/2 I played with a drunk that spewed 2,300 over 90 minutes. Standard open was $100. He moved tables after 35 minutes. Most people were releived to see him go. I asked for table change to follow him.

I once sat down at the $1/$2 with a friend buying short and shoving every other hand. People got annoyed and asked the floor to remove us because they wanted to play "serious" poker.

Online players on these forums often complain about shortstackers as well.

Yeah nobody in their right mind would complain about 70% VPIP drunktards though.

Re: Most absurd poker "thinking" you have heard in a live game?

I agree that complainers of both sorts are kind of silly, but if someone is there to have a good relaxing game and doesn't really care about making money, it makes sense for them to be unhappy about that kind of game and maybe try to change tables. If you started raising every hand at any 2/4 limit table in the country, I imagine people would be unhappy about it.
