with a bunch of paint on the flop, player pushed, and then later showed 45 suited, saying that since others were going for high cards, he thought he could win.

Whereupon, I said, I am going to post this here.....I was not in that pot.

Would you also take his hand over trup Kings every time? =)

The poker room should add those boards that they have at the roulette wheels to track this and attract more players like this guy.

LMAO @ TOM, omfg that's be so funny. You'll see players playing something like Q4o saying bunch of Q and 4s showing up. I saw that a lot when I play live if a certain card or suit keeps appearing on flops.

A couple weeks ago I was playing the 3/5 NLHE at HG and had about 1500. A dude raised from early position and he had close to 2000 behind. I re-popped it to like 55 or something from 20 and it folds back around to him and he goes "i got medium suited connectors but you have too much money. If you had like 500 I'd call you".

Waaaaaaaaaaaaat? lol.

I was just like "yeah, i hear ya", mucked and collected my 20 bucks + blinds.

I always encourage this type of banter at the table, I will always point out that Queen or 4 hitting on future hands...

"There is that 4 again!..."

This really isn't going to win the thread but I liked it so much I decided to keep it:

Board is AKx. Action is SB-bet, HJ call, button -Raise all in, SB-fold, HJ Call with tt vs button AK.
"I had to call with tt there God I run bad"

Yea, so do I, I mistyped my post, I meant to say, "I say that to a table if I notice a card or suit that flops a lot, encouraging to play bad cards."

The funny thing about all this is that I've also seen the opposite reasoning applied.

"I folded my 88 preflop because there were two 8s on the board last hand. I knew that an 8 wasn't due to come again so soon ..."

It is really tough to fold a pocket pair, especially if there is ONLY two overs on board

Playing a live tournament against a bunch of regs who clearly know at least basic theory (bad table, but sooo much fun), we start talking about the phenom of "favorite hands. I mention a buddy who is addicted to 74, since one night he folded it 3 times and it would have won each hand, so he started playing it and made $$$s (that night).

Reg who was actually quite good and whose stories indicated some real experience with the medium-stakes Vegas games/crowd said "74 suited is the best hand ever in position on Poker Stars. Their algorithm just loves that hand. If you play it in position you will win 90%. Worse case scenario, you're flopping an OESD."

When other players scoffed, reg insisted and offered a prop bet based on PTR results, claiming "god I miss Stars. I had that algorithm all figured out."

I gave myself props for not asking why said reg was grinding $50-150 daily tournaments in Black Hawk Colorado, in that case...

1) I've heard this more than once in different scenarios but basically a guy being happy to have a chopping hand when allin before river instead of a dominating hand...because he'd rather have a sure chop than the possibility of being 3 outed.

(example: 1/3NL with around 350stacks for two players involved: board 456. player 1 bets, player 2 raises, player 1 shoves, player 2 looks genuinely pained and calls with 78. Player 1 shows 78 and player 2 says in relief "thank god I thought you had a set or two pair. Chop it up." (yes this guy was oblivious to the freeroll)

2) Back in like 2002 or so I found those free bar leagues around Charlotte, NC. I made friends with a couple of other guys who like me thought we were the next gods of poker because we'd binked $800 in a $3 stars tourney or similar (that was my "breakthru" first big score and I thought it validated me lol) Anyway we're playing in this (free) bar tourney and theres a guy at my table who literally calls every hand, no matter what price...and he's old and says in a slow drawl "I caalllll..." every time slowly sliding the chips in the pot.
The dude is on a rungoot and wins a couple big pots "caaalllling" and my friend Jesse says "Sir do you realize you've played every hand since we sat down?"
Old guy: "I keep getting different combinations of cards" with total sincerety

In hindsight when I remember this moment and the look on Jesse's face I just think "pwnd"

I've seen two people, completely serious, debate both sides of this issue. 3/5 at Poto... had a bunch of flops with 2 fours. One guy swore it meant they were hot, and ended up 3betting big with 54s, 84s, and 44. Another guy tried to educate him by telling him that 4s were actually less likely to come up some more since long term the odds have to even out so 4s will stop coming to allow that.

Both were dead serious and I had to get up from the table to avoid laughing so hard at them.

There is a case where this is true.

If you have pocket 2's and there are only 2 overs on the flop it's hard to fold.

There are plenty of theoretical situations where AA is foldable.

3 players left, normal structure, final table, you have 2 big blinds, the other 2 players have 80 big blinds. They both go all in preflop. Easy fold and you don't even need to look at your cards.

I like the donks that talk about how they prefer 22 to AA, or how there's no point in playing if there' no jackpot.

Dude to my right says, "I hate showdowns. I'd rather everybody fold pre-flop."

I swear I'm not making this up:

Flop 9s9h7h

Player A bets out
Player B raises
Player A reraises
Player B shoves
Player A instacalls

Player B shows J9s
Player A shows A7o

Player A says "I had to call: I had two pair!"
