Yeah, this is where bus trips are a good choice. Gives you a chance to sleep both ways if you are planning ahead.
A few years ago when I was pulling all nighters and had to drive home it was a battle, I'd have something with caffeine to ensure I was totally alert. I'd come home and tell my wife not to wake me for 10-12 hours.
As you said, it wasn't the poker or remaining sharp, it's second nature once you play so often; and nothing a sharp cup of coffee can't fix if you start to mentally fade, but the drive home is the real problem.
Sometimes I just get the poker bug and I am currently injured so it is a good way to keep my mind off the pain I am currently going through. Playing online is simply not a substitution.
