Well I get KK in the big blind with 6 limpers. I make an appropriate raise and the geezer to my immediate left gets IRATE. He goes, "Well that's not very smart!" I say, "You're right. The smart thing to do would have been to play 4-8"
Sheesh. I thought showdown manipulation was my biggest pet peeve (probably is cause it basically Happens every hand) but 'high hand hustlers' are a close second.
I can't stand when people get mad at a preflop raise, cause they want to see the flop cheaply with their pocket 3's. And then blame you for having to fold. This drives me insane for a few reason;
1. I'm here to play poker. I couldn't give less of a damn about a high hand. I always think, why focus on winning a $500 high hand when I can when $500 playing textbook poker ??
I always want to tell guys that are obviously playing with high hand on their mind that if they want to gamble, GO PLAY BLACKJACK. You are probably muuuuuuch better off putting $500 on one single hand than sitting down at a table thinking you're gonna hit quads, that then has to hold up for 30min/hour. Let's not even get into the money you'll bleed away Anyways when they do decide to actually play their hand
2. A lot of the hand these guys feel like they have to fold SHOULD call a raise preflop, strategically. who doesn't set mine in a multiway pot ?
I resist saying anything to these guys because most of the guys that are verbal about winning high hands and being disappointed with having to fold a high hand potential hand preflop are either on the verge of being drunk and/or may be ready to fight you for saying something. I get that latter sense just by how angry/frustrated guys actually get thinking their high hand potential is being played with. Especially those late night high hands sessions.
