At the high end maybe. Lots of poker pros playing 100-200 and 200-400 and even 400-800 limit games and mixed games, but the average joe in his local card room isn't going to pick 5-10 limit over 1-2 NL. The appeal of getting a double up (or more) in just one hand is way too big for the average guy buying in for $100-200.

It's like the list opens at 3 AM for a 9 AM game but the list has some 'automatic' names that go on it. So you have to be in the casino at like 3 AM and hope there is a seat open and then figure out what to do with your time before the game starts. Apparently the 'auto' names don't have to be there when the list opens but others do have to physically be in the casino to sign up. The person we know has had some respectable sessions (+$10K or more) but hadn't quite figured out how to become a reg for that game.

This is a 2nd hand story from what I would consider a reliable but reluctant source, so some of the details might be incomplete. Sorry to stir a pot unnecessarily. GL
So you have second or third-hand information that there is a rumor that one player in one unknown city (possibly Tampa) has possibly had trouble getting into one high stakes game, and you decided to report unequivocally that some games in the state of Florida are hard to get into because the rooms are protecting regs?

Excellent post.

I do know that in certain poker rooms in Florida, they allow for private games for an hourly fee instead of rake. Some of these games may allow for a list and become public when seats open up. You can call it a semi-private game. You would have to know who is organizing the game to get in it early.

You would probably have to be someone who no one wants to talk to (or someone who never talks to anyone) if you can't figure it out. Poker players are gossip-y sorts and you can usually find someone who give some details about the game if you play long enough. If this room spreads a large LO8 game, that might be the best place to find out.

Yes, this is true but there's nothing shady about it. Its a private game. They aren't "protecting regs".

I doubt the number of blinds makes any difference outside of the chopping blinds getting more complicated perhaps. As my 2c rest of the world rake opinion.

Confirmed and happens all over FL.

A private game in a casino open to the public is "shady" by definition in my opinion. Allowing players already in the game to exclude others is unfair.

If it were a home game or in a private club I'd have no problem with it. In fact, I exclude players from my home game simply because I don't enjoy playing with them.

Well, that's just a service that some poker rooms choose to offer. They want to get people to move their home game to the casino for a set fee.

I've seen it used by a members of a professional sports team, who don't want to host a home game, maybe even live in a state where running a home game is a grey area or outright illegal, and they just go to the casino, set up a private game, and pass chips around the table while excluding strangers.
