Re: The LCP Moderation Discussion Thread (guidelines in post #1)

Well if you look at my record in this forum Im guessing that was the first time I had anything deleted. And if you go back and read my first post in this thread about you will see that I am ok with it and totally understand. I apologize for trying to insert a little humor into a debate I was having and again I have no problem with the deletion. And although I did try in insert humor it was a legitimate part of the question. But to claim that your summary describes it perfectly is laughable at best.

Re: The LCP Moderation Discussion Thread (guidelines in post #1)

Hey, everyone. I'd like to make an observation based upon some recent activity in some of the threads as it relates to trolling, personal attacks/insults, or strongly stated opinions.

First off, if someone violates the rules and posts a personal attack or insult targetting you or another poster, please don't respond in kind, and start a back and forth where both sides (or multiple posters) are slinging insults back and forth. Rather, just report the post to the mods and let us handle it. If you start to fight back with insults of your own, then both parties will end up in trouble. Sort of like in a football game where one player pushes another, that guy pushed back, the rest of the team jumps in, and you end up with multiple ejections. So don't feel like it's critical that you must defend your honor. Just let us know, and we'll handle it.

It's possible that someone may state an opinion that you strongly disagree with. And they may state it with a sense of absolute confidence in the correctness of their opinion that may be undeserving. But as long as they don't express it by insulting anyone else in the process, that's OK. So resist the urge to target a poster who, in your opinion, just doesn't seem to "get it" no matter how many other people disagree with him. Once people have stated their opinions and the facts that support them, each person will have to decide what they believe is correct. And people are allowed to be wrong. So don't feel like the fight must continue until everyone has been beaten into submisison and accepts your position as right. If you've stated your case, then just stop posting. No need to get upset about it and post the same thing over and over, or worse get mad at the poster and start insulting them.

And finally with trolls, who make responses designed to inflame or irritate people, just ignore them and report them. Take the same approach as with personal attacks. Don't go down to their level and start trying to out-troll the troll. Just let us delete them once we are aware of them. Like people who slow roll you at showdown, they are after a reaction, and by denying them one, you take away the reason they troll in the first place.

If everyone will keep these tips in mind, I think it will allow us to clean up threads that are pushed off track quicker and make sure only the guilty are punished. So here's my sexy slogan for you to remember when you encounter a troll or someone making personal attacks:

REPORT DON'T RETORT!

Thanks.

Despite your insistence to the contrary, it simply was not a legitimate question to ask the poster. If you can't see why, then we'll just have to agree to disagree. But I think we both agree that it wasn't appropriate under the guidelines, which is what led to its deletion.

Re: The LCP Moderation Discussion Thread (guidelines in post #1)

Hey everyone- I wanted to let you know that due to personal reasons, I have asked Mat to demod me and return me to regular poster status.

I want to personally thank Rapini and Lattimer for their welcoming attitude when I came in as a new mod, and for the great working relationship we had. I couldn't ask for anything more, and it was a pleasure working with them. I also like to thank everyone for their patience and support as we put in new guidelines and changed certain things around. There's a saying "all change, for the better or worse, is equally resisted". But I really did appreciate how everyone was willing to put up with me as I learned the mod ropes.

I'll still be around as a poster, though, so you'll still have ample opportunity to disagree with me. Just remember to do it in a nice way.

Thanks.

Re: The LCP Moderation Discussion Thread (guidelines in post #1)

Just wanted to get this out there in advance of questions about it: tonight, I inadvertently merged the Maryland Live and Chicagoland threads when trying to merge the "One Day in Chicago" thread with the Chicagoland thread. I have contacted the admins to request that that action be reversed. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. I've locked the thread for now but of course they'll be unlocked when my screw-up has been resolved.

Not sure how long it takes to undo, but did you consider adding your note to the end of the locked thread?

I moved the 1st group of posts that were Chicagoland so that the OP of MDLive was restored to post #1, and reopened that thread. We'll have to work at getting the Chicagoland thread fully restored, but I wanted to keep MDLive active.

Re: The LCP Moderation Discussion Thread (guidelines in post #1)

I sent an email early this morning about moving posts from the Live! Hotel NY thread and starting a new hype thread for the new poker room at the Montreign casino which is about 45 minutes away starting at post #44. I don't mean to be a pain in the *** but the reason I didnt wana start it is because all of the ones I started all ended up dead. Yes I am a poker player and I'm superstitious, it comes with the territory. I avoid certain parking spots if I lost big in them too.

I don't see any reason why not to break it off into a new thread. If you would like I can re-email the message again.

We got your post report, it's just the 2 of us are usually accessing this site from the app during the day and that kind of thing needs to be done at a computer. We weren't ignoring you.

Re: The LCP Moderation Discussion Thread (guidelines in post #1)

Looking for some help, if this isn't the correct forum to post this question please point me in the right direction.

There has been a lot of discussion on the MD live venue thread about an increase to the bbj drop. I've noticed a few posts being deleted so I'm trying to understand what is OK to post and what is not based on existence of other topic specific\dedicated\containment threads.

There is an official win rates thread, but it is still OK to discuss in MDL thread how the drop increase impacts your win rate.

There is an official tipping thread which makes it NOT OK to hint that one's reaction to the drop increase could be to offset that increase from casino employee's pockets instead of a player's pocket.

This seems inconsistent to me. Please explain.

I feel that the posts being deleted are specifically about the bbj drop at that venue and the impacts of that change. Those posts aren't about tipping

I also believe it is useful that others (including decision makers from the casino) know how some players are changing their behavior because of the change in drop.

Thanks for your consideration.

Re: The LCP Moderation Discussion Thread (guidelines in post #1)

Anything at all involving tipping, even tangentially, should be posted in the tipping containment thread.

Some people in the MDL thread have insinuated or even stated outright that they're going to refrain from tipping due to the increased jackpot drop. I've deleted those posts whenever I've seen them, but if I've missed any please use the Report Post function to let us know so that we can take care of them.

Would you please provide the link to the win rates thread in LCP? I don't know what you're talking about with respect to inconsistency, but I'll of course take a look to see what's going on once I have the link. Thanks.

I don't know how to post a link to another forum thread. Only use the mobile app to access two plus two. The other thread I was referring to is *** official win rates, bankrolls and finances ***

I disagree that someone posting how they are going to adjust to the increase in drop to maintain a positive win rate is about tipping. My opinion is those comments are about the change in MDL drop.

Also my opinion that those comments, written respectfully and thoughtfully add value to the MDL conversation.

You are the moderator and your judgment is what matters.

Thank you for responding to my questions. I'll now drop it.

That's a different forum, it doesn't apply here. In this forum we have a couple of topics which we contain to a specific thread just for it, and tipping is one of those. Over the years we've seen every discussion about tipping (possibly without exception) turn into flame wars and personal attacks, which prompted the containment.

I do agree with you that if choosing not to tip the dealer as a result of the rake/promo increase that it's important to let Mike know that. But you should do so privately, via PM or in person.

Of course. If people feel it'll help, we can undelete them and move them there. I'm not sure how much it'll help though... if you want Mike to know your tipping behavior will change, you should let him know via PM. Nothing good can come from announcing it to the public.

The point is that tipping posts tend to erupt and there is a CONTAINMENT thread to deal with that. You may feel it is relevant or pertinent and maybe it is ..... but the reason for the containment thread is to avoid other threads getting derailed by the highly volatile tipping discussions.

I suspect the winrate thread is not to contain winrate discussions as much as to provide a central location for people looking to discuss winrates..... I don;t know because I don;t frequent that forum ... but I don;t see winrates bankrolls and finances as being the sort of thing with takes over other threads.

The main thing that moving rather than deleting does is give greater transparency for mod decisions. I understand why they don't belong there, but other people may need some help. It also makes it more likely that people with concerns will encounter the opinions of people who have experienced the same thing in other casinos.

This is a good idea in theory and it's what I do when I'm in front of a computer.

In practice, when I'm on my phone, unfortunately there's no way to move posts. So what I do is...
--> If it's an issue where there's interesting/important posts that could spark good discussion and/or I have not specifically warned the posters or thread involved about the violation, I wait until I'm in front of a computer and then move all the related posts.
--> If it's an issue where the posts aren't particularly interesting or useful or I've specifically warned the involved posters or thread, I delete.

In the instance Zippy brought up, I'd posted a warning in the thread recently...

Also, it doesn't look like anyone's thought it important/useful enough to bring up in the tipping containment thread--my guess is it's really just another excuse to not tip, i.e., "cheapskates gonna cheapskate," so not much to discuss--but if anyone does want to discuss it they're of course welcome to post there as Lattimer said.

I will defer to your experience about it being potentially volatile enough to derail thread. Sad, but plausible.

Your point about why the topic doesn't belong in the MDL thread isn't helped by making value judgments of the comments and value judgements about the people that made comments you don't like.

I can buy the topic being too volatile to not be worth the risk. That is reason enough.
