I don't mind the 'high hand' promos as it 'allows' for more potential BBJs to get hit in those rooms. I play in a room that has $250 every 4 hours for high hand and you can't go more than 45 days between BBJ hits. Granted the BBJ only gets to about $40K with AAAJJ as a min hand, but I will go for quantity over quality at this casino. GL
Forget the $250 every 4 hours; if you like HH promos, you need to come down to SoFla. Pretty much every room has HH promos of something along the order of $250 every 15 minutes or $500 every 30min at various times of the day or on certain days of the week. I was playing at Hialeah yesterday and it was $400 every 20 minutes. The day before I was at Gulfstream and it was $500 every 30 minutes. (I wasn't chasing the promos, it's just that both rooms are equidistant from my condo on Miami Beach.)
One room here (Magic City) has a $1,500 high hand M-F for the two-hour period from 10am - noon. In fact, I was playing 2/5NL there last Thursday when someone at the 2/4 table next to me made a two-card royal flush (which would have netted an additional $500 bonus in addition to the $1,500) late in the two-hour period, but they neglected to ensure that there was $10 in the pot so it didn't qualify. Sucks to be him.
And it isn't a matter of choosing a game with a bonus over a better game somewhere else as it is in Vegas because every room down here has the same rake of $5 + $2. All things being equal, I'd rather play in a room with just a $4 rake and no bonuses, but that isn't an option here. For several years I split my year playing in Vegas for 6 months and in SoFla for 6 months, and I can say unequivocally that the games are juicier down here, even with having to pay $7 as opposed to only $4 or $5.
