Maybe if I was down or up nothing or up 700 I would've stayed. But that precarious point of being up about 100 big blinds, where the win is pretty solid but very vulnerable to being gone in one pot, I'm currently happy to take the psychological EV of walking out with a decent win.
Very important to note the accuracy of your statement. I watched a RunItOnce vid that talked about emotional/pschycoligcal EV and thinking about every decision as a trade-off that you can actually measure the results of.

If you know yourself, and know that it would take an unlikely scenario of winning 100+ more bb in that 3 hours to make yourself willing to play another long session the next day where you have a high likelihood of making that some money or more, then it's clearly the +EV choice to leave at 3:30am when you're content with the day and ready to jump back in the next day.

That being said, the MOST +Ev decision would to be content no matter what and stay if you think its very profitable if you're able to play a solid game the next day regardless of the results. However, we're only human. If you're not capable of doing that, that's ok. It's just a matter of how hard you can push yourself to maximize your WR

Rec player only. No Casinos State. I make several trips a year to Ohio and Indiana rooms and I try to make the infrequent trips nice long sessions. 7 or 8 hours if I can. However , coolers, bad beats and my bad play combine to tilt me from time to time , so I rack up and leave early. Even if only after 2 or 3 hours on a negative session. I save a lot of money quitting rather than chasing losses on tilt. Pros and semi pros deal with this much differently I know.

I take my cue from other human competitions. Most do not ordinarily stretch beyond 3 hours since most humans can't execute most competitive activities at a very high level beyond 2-3 hours or so.
Interesting take

Obviously it depends as others have outlined - but generally I will do 1 session for 4-5 hours or more commonly two sessions (4ish hours each) with a full hour break in between for meal and digesting the game.

Yeah, playing longer might earn me more dollars but I feel certain my hourly (and happiness) would go down.

So while some might say my current 5 session win streak is manufactured...

I never played less than 4 hours...(or more than 6)

and

I never left a great game...

The 2nd point being the real key. Since I never leave a great game, I'm certain my hourly would go down if I made it a habit to play longer. I always leave when the game is mediocre at best and with seemingly little chance of improving.

And I always got to make the drive home while in a good mood from winning, and not overly tired from playing too long. Win/win.

I never set a time limit for when I play. Some days I will play for 5 hours, then other days I will play a 24 hour session.
