Guy at 2/5 seat changes from my right to my left. Guy at 2/5 seat changes from my right to my left.

I was playing 2/5 and playing pretty active. I was winning small - maybe up $300. A player on my direct right, asked for a seat change, and sits on my direct left.

I just kind of stared at him for about 30 seconds, and asked for a seat change button myself. I than said I find it very rude and poor etiquette for someone to do that, and the table agreed.

The player racked up about 15 minutes later.

Was I out of line?

Haha oh boy. Yes, you were 100% in the wrong. What is your justification for saying that it is very rude and poor etiquette?

Way to announce to the table how psychologically weak you are.

Because it will just be a seat changing war. I was going to seat change again to his direct left as soon as I could. The only reason he did it was to get an edge on me.

The table agreed with me and was giving him a hard time, well at least 1 guy did. The other 6 players just shrugged.

Let me ask you this...

Why do you feel he should be obligated to stay seated to your direct right? Just because that was the seat he was randomly given when he arrived at the poker room? Is that a good reason?

Yes. So all I do is ask for a seat change button and it will be a rotation of seat changes every time someone on their direct left leaves. Who wants to play in a game like that? I don't seat change unless someone smells.

And if I do want to seat change away from a reg, i won't make it obvious. I'll seat like 4 seats to his left. Moving literally to my direct left when he was on my direct right is super obvious and rude.

I seat change often, including 'obvious,' seat changes like this one. It does not in fact start a never ending rotation of seat changes, but I can see why you think it might.

As far as him doing it to get an edge... Isn't that why you engage in strategy discussions on 2p2? So you have the right to try and gain an edge, but your opponent's don't? That doesn't seem reasonable.

Well then the entire table are clueless.

Was it rude of you to sit at his immediate left? No? Then why would it be rude for him to sit to your left?

And it can't start a never ending 2arvof seat changes because you can't move into an occupied seat so you can't just move to his left at will and neither can he

+1

Let me first start by pointing out that seat changing to a fish's left is just terrible for the game. So it's not like the seat changer is blameless.

But fish who then seat change away or table change away are lol and saying something out loud is super lol.

If OP not a fish, upgrade lol and super lol in the last paragraph to super lol and super duper lol. If you play well and someone thinks you suck, they're making huge FTOP mistakes and you want to encourage, not discourage, that line of thinking.

There are so many reasons a player might change seats that unless they tell you the reason how can you know it was about getting position on you?

I can't understand why you would verbally make an issue out of it. Sorry , but That just seems silly. There is nothing really unethical with what the guy did even if it did annoy you a bit. Do you have some history with that guy?

At a reasonably full table, this is totally standard and OP is out of line. I've made this sort of seat change many times.

But if there are like five people at a ten-handed table, is does seem like this could lead to endless seat changing, and I'm not really sure how this should be handled.

I do remember there was one player in particular who would play mid-limit LHE games at Borgata who at any short-handed table would repeatedly keep changing seats in order to avoid the blinds. Eventually the floor would have to be called and an individual ruling would need to be made prohibiting him from switching despite the usual rule for when you have to post following a seat change.

But OP, why in this situation did YOU care so much whether this player was on your right or left?

So what was it? The whole table or just one guy?

There is nothing rude about seat changing. I have no idea where you got the idea that this is a thing.

Are you one of those people who think that check-raising is rude?

I was thinking the same thing: that this has got to be a level.

Nobody that has been on this site for 8 years and has 3000+ posts could possibly be this clueless!

Got it:

1. It's OK for you to sit on his left, but not for him to move to his left.
2. It's not OK for him to move to your left, but as soon as he is on your left, it's OK for you to move to his left.

Maybe they should have a rule that you are the only player that is allowed to change seats? Would make things easier.

Very.

Maybe he wanted a better view of a tv or the cutie at the next table.

Maybe there was a breeze coming from your left and your "cologne" was a bit overpowering.

Maybe he has "lucky" and "unlucky" seats.

Maybe he got tired of you relentlessly iso-raising him and just wanted to get away from that happening.

Definitely other reasons for seat changing than just to get position on you. DOn't see the big deal.

Even if he IS changing just to get position, NBD. Adjust your play. Get a thicker skin.

Are you worried that you're the fish at the table or something?

No idea why changing seats should be considered bad etiquette. Guarantee a lot of people here will change seats if there's a huge fish with chips at the table, why would you not?

Even then.......

Maybe he was moving to be 4 seats to the left of someone else. If you did that yourself, you would still be to the direct left of someone. Should that guy think you're rude?

Wow, some people are so clueless and think they're the center of the universe...
