It would be amazing because it would result in UTG just staring around scouting for people looking at their cards, which there are none because nobody has even picked up his cards. I like it a lot because it mirrors someones behavior and usually someone needs to feel what it is like when it is done to him before he understands why it's totally lame.

I'm pretty sure players like this are just using the spotlight to look like sexy methodical poker geniuses (in their own head).

All eyes on them as they broodingly replicate the Fedor Holz mannerisms they saw on ESPN.

Calling clock - which generally gives 1 minute - isn't going to speed up a guy who takes 30 seconds for every action. And a guy who takes 30 seconds for every action is going to massively slow down a game. Even a 10 second shot clock with a bank can slow a game a lot if the players are using all 10 seconds on every action.

I try to not let it bug me, though that is difficult.

For someone who is this obvious and clueless, I would like to.try open mockery, or maybe just stare at him for the same amount of time it took him to act before you even look at your cards.

Of course, he will interpret any response as confirmation that his super advanced super disciplined approach is rattling the fish

Don't call clock. Just call the floor. If you call for a clock, the floor will think the guy is just tanking on this one hand. If you call for the floor and let him know that the guy has been stalling for the entire tournament on every hand then he'll have the right information and can help you.

(At least the price has dropped substantially. And the pro coming to town is a guy I can respect, unlike the charlatan mentioned above.)

I'll sometimes ask the dealer where the camera is so I can make sure to get my fair share of camera time too. It makes the dealer laugh but never really speeds the guy along. I'll also whistle the Jeopardy theme. Same effect.

One place I play doesn't have dedicated seat change buttons but they'll hand out the little quarter sized clear plastic lammers they use to separate stacks in the well. I've been tempted to (at a cash game) request the seat change button and then chuck it at the head of a tanker. I'm not quite old enough and definitely not big enough to get away with it without fear of getting punched. Though if I got punched they'd likely 86 the guy so maybe not a terrible result.

When enough of the table clowns someone often enough, you often see the desired change (or they go on monkey tilt, and the situation resolves itself soon enough)

This works for the player who isn't paying attention. This does not work for the deliberately slow playet

Some people use a variation of this to try and 'shame' slow players. They will use their phone, with a very big display, and start the clock as soon as action is to the slow player. Then they set the display on the rail, face up. That's all.

It doesn't necessarily help, but it does bring unweclomed focus to the players habits, so he may not like the spotlight on him.

I don't play many tournaments but I did run into this problem in a qualifier one time. Asked him to speed up the trivial decisions but didn't help. Talked to the floor away from table didn't help. Called clock a few times, didn't help.

Finally me and one other guy started to very loudly set up prop bets of how many seconds it would take him to make a move with the cell phone timer visible to the table. Started heckling him every time he showed down some rags and proved he didn't really have a tough decision to make. The whole table was cheering against him in any hand he folded or lost. It sounded like the super bowl at our table for a 3bb fold lol.

After about one blind level he did start to speed up. I've never seen a table band together like that. Don't know if that would ever work again but everyone didn't get mad and instead made that guy the butt of every joke. Easily the most fun tournament I've ever played in.

Biggest take away is don't get upset and especially don't show frustration. Have fun with it and just rag on the person. Good luck

Not always accurate...many people don't like being repeatedly clowned in that fashion.

Right they don't like it.... but that doesn't mean they comply with your wishes. The people who do intentionally do because they think it makes them a better player .. either because they aggravate others or because they think it it makes it harder for others to get reads.
