I just worry that those 8 tables at harrahs will be constantly full so empress will get the overflow.

It's only 8 for now. If they do well it should go up.

Has everyone moved to Harrahs and stopped coming to hollywood-joliet? Must be, because there are not that many good players here anymore, which is good for me because I am 6 for 6 on my last visits. There is still good action here. Its not H-shoe type volume but three 1-2 tables on a Tuesday afternoon is not bad.

This place is a complete joke. 11 players one table max player had $75 on the table. Funny.

The owners have the technical savvy, computers and staff experience, to extract money from a joint, using just such formula(s), regardless of casino area. Casinos these days, are nuts and bolts bottom line operations. In that regard, that joint is rediculous. It's been like that, since day one. That didn't even build a NEW joint after the fire.

I was there Tuesday too from 11am- 5pm it was not as u described. What time were you there? Two tables with Plenty o action and bad play.

7pm-720pm no good action so I went to Harrahs. Got there 5 games, great action. Played 3-5 with 2-300 per pot.

What's the action been like at Hollywood the past few months? I have been playing mostly at Harrahs and it is becoming a douche fest so I have been thinking of trying Hollywood again.

I often go weekdays, 10PM-4AM. Sometimes weekends, though lack of tables and wait list make this impossible sometimes unless you call way ahead. Here is what I experience when I go to Hollywood (Empress)

-Only one dealer there is a stickler for the rules, in fact s/he has cause the most misdeals. While dealing preflop, if a card becomes expose, MISDEAL!
s/he is a real blow hard sometimes.

-I've been told to keep my cell phone in my pocket once. I do it all the time however. They seemed to have given up on scolding people for just "checking the time real quick," as this happens all the time. No headphones or web browsing for what they call a potential "unfair advantage" to other players who can't use the web or listen to music.

-Most dealers do act pretty friendly towards regs, and will engage in pointless convo's with them while they are in a hand! Dealers try to create a friendly, leisure-like astmosphere. Pit bosses rotate, and yes, they will be pit bosses for the poker room for one hour, then move the BJ or craps, then back. My experience with pit bosses has been very limited, but pleasent.

Dispite all the little rules the IGB has set up, I never found it a hinderince to having a winning session.

Nowadays its a good mix late at night, 11-4AM. Some older folks, maybe retired, are rather tight and passive. Limping with kings, underbetting top pair, two-pair, ext. There also seems to be a fair about of LAGs, with some TAGs, usually the younger generation are LAGs. Some good players will pop up here and there, just as often as the fish, who comes with 2000$ to play leisurely, lose 1500 at craps then make there way to the poker room to "give it a try"

I believe the game here is beatable if you go at night, and pay attention to how bad some people will play their hand.

Hollywood is beatable, lots of tight play and bad play. But not much of a "room". It's down to 3 tables and usually only 1-2 NL. Sometimes 2-5. Never saw any other type of game there. ( they had 5-10 limit several years ago).

I have been playing only at Harrah's since it opened (other than the occassional trip to the Shoe) is there any reason to give Hollywood another try? I like the floor at Harrahl's and the dealers are better as well. I don't like the players in general at either but I can say that about any poker room so is there any reason to give it a try again?

We had this discussion last night at Harrahs Joliet. We were playing half 3/5 NL and half 1/2 PLO with 5 regs and one guy from out of town. This scenario was brought up. You have the option to exclusively play 1/2 NL at empress only, or to quit poker forever. Every person at the table agreed that you would be much better off just quitting forever. How embarrassing is that for empress! Also, each of these players play >20hrs per week of live poker.

3 tables, only ever 1/2NL. 10% up to $6 rake. BBJ is $1 from every pot over $30.

Pretty standard 1/2 room, lots of bad play. This room tends to run a little on the tight side though, even on weekends.

The closest room is Harrah's Joliet, about 5 minute drive away with 7 tables. Harrah's run 1/3, 3/5 and 1/2PLO and regular weekly tournaments. Try both if you like, but its hard to pick HOJO over Harrah's.
