Do you HAVE TO give your social security number to a casino when given a W2G? Do you HAVE TO give your social security number to a casino when given a W2G?

So a woman gets a tax bill one year for extra taxes she didn't pay and asks why.

"Well," explains the tax auditor, " you won $3500 at the Commerce Casino in a NLHE tournament last year."

"I've never been to a casino in my life!"
Explaines Sister Mary Catherine.

"Yes you did, you used the name A. Trebec."

"But that's not my name or signature."

"But it's your SSN..."

A vist is made to the casino, "Who is ATrebec?"

"Oh, he's a regular, let me get you his address Special Agent."

Some time later, ATrebec hears a knock on his door.

I have met a lot of guys that agree with you.

Many of them, well most of them, I met in the Federal Prision I used to work in.

Almost no parole from Federal Prison, you serve 90 per cent of your time. Of course it's the best prison time you can sevre. Good food, smart people (they will tell you how smart they are) mafia dons, former police officers, sheriffs, attoney's, judges, Congressmen, drug dealers, and tax evaders.

BTW, I met these people and more in a minimum security prison located in Ft Worth where walking away was the preferred form of excape.

Good Times!

If you don't have to give them an SSN, and apparently your don't, then do that.

But intentionally falsifying a federal mandated document is very risky.

Seriously, do what you want to do. I gave up on public sevice years ago but the penalties are there, you risk your freedom over a few dollars. IMO, it's not worth it.

Boy, I am new to the internets. This does happen all the time? This is just as tarded as the dude who said ... it all goes to the general fund.

I got it all in chips, and cashed it out, So? If you make a habit of doing this, or do this in large amounts, you will get a first hand experience with the currency reporting regs. And, casino management will slowly and carefully explain to you that these rules have nothing to do with taxes, per se. And you will still not get it.

I know it can be confusing, to a tard, but the effort is worth putting in. Withholding and paying taxes are different things. But my bad, feel free to put your tin hat on and explain to me that income tax isn't "legal" because someone farted during the ratification of the 98th amendment, or whatever.

For those of us who live in the real world, most EA's will bill hourly. You do not need to 'get your tax done' to get professional tax advice. A few blinds will do. And, if you take tax advice from random tards off the internet, INCLUDING MYSELF, well, who's the tard?.

Thread over ?

What if someone would swap the last two digits on their SSN by "accident" after finishing a tourney at 6:30am?

Probably the same thing that happens to people who "accidentally" think the speed limit is 65 when it's 55, but with more Federal Pound Me In the Ass Prison and less White Collar Resort.

Yes, you can claim it was a mistake once.

But the cost for that one mistake may very well be an IRS audit.

Now that's FUN!

Again, what anyone decides to do is up to them.

I am just pointing out that if you decide to take the risk, you're heads up agaisnt the IRS with a very short stack and getting felted takes on a whole new meaning.

What a great idea!

Now, when that someone files his taxes he will of course report the income from that tournament win or risk facing the penalties that come from trying to hide it. And then won't it be fun for him that the receipt for the taxes he had withheld has the wrong SS number.

Lucky for all the brilliant minds here that the IRS doesn't have any authority or resources to track down tax cheats.

There is a simple solution for all the poker players who don't want to give the casinos their SS number and/or don't want to have winnings reported to the IRS. Don't play tournaments! Otherwise, be prepared to report your winnings.

Disclaimer: I am not advocating playing cash games instead of tournaments in order to hide income from the IRS. But the reality is that a winner in cash games can much more easily do that.
