Still the biggest tournament of all time.

Still my favourite tournament ever. Jamie was TV Gold.

I don't know how many chips he had, but if Paul Wasicka had Binger outchipped doesn't he have to call Gold's shove around 49 minutes into the second video? He's up and down with a small flush draw, had he called he'd have had 25 - 35 million chips!

Of course the difference bet. 2nd and 3rd was more money than I could ever hope to win lifetime ...

I suppose Binger could still have folded behind ...

Just watched the 2 videos above - great stuff.

Those were the days when I used to really look forward to the ESPN WSOP coverage. For me that was the all time peak of WSOP viewing........compared to today its so old school - far better than the November 9 nonsense.

Greatest case of "running goot" of all time!!! Consider the $$$ at stake, the importance of the title, the number of people in the field, the number people better than him in the field, and the intense microscope he was under at that point in time (maybe pokers highest point in popularity) and it has to be considered the best run of all time anywhere in any poker tournament... if Im wrong please tell me who has ever run better in any one tournament. Even to this day its still absolutely mind boggling to watch. Oh yeah... He should be nominated for the "table talk hall of fame" as well !!!

No matter what unless you have a soul read that one of them has a higher flush draw, I don't know how you fold there.

Glad jamie won, he was the most entertaining at the FT by far and made great tv on HSP. Funny how in the 2nd vid everyone is criticising his game then he ships it

Didn't think anyone could run better than this in one live tourney and then along came Darvin.

People always talk about the Moneymaker effect. I never heard of poker back then. For me it was the Gold effect.

If it wasn't for Uigea and crap like that, maybe Gold would've been as big a name as Moneymaker. His win was more captivating, in a bigger field, much bigger prize, and with a bigger audience. He also went on HSP which Moneymaker never did. But Moneymaker is still around repping Stars and Gold has vanished.

"Wack MCs only lasted one season"--Rogert Diggs, AKA RZA, Wu-Tang Clan, Bells of War

Gold's win reminded people of poker's luck element in the short run.

Darvin's run > Gold's one IMO

Darvin didn't even know when he was committed to a pot, didn't know a single thing about odds or so.
Just knew the rules of the game, nothing more.

Gold outplayed lots of people though with his talks whether it's by making them fold the best hand (against Prahlad's 77 with like KT on 22xAx board or something like that or on Q98Ax board with like J4hh flashing a J to his opponent who folded his Q thinking Jamied had JT or so - he told him "JT ? " and Jamie snap flashed his J) or making the guy call drawing super thin (last hand against Wasicka even though it was hard for him to fold when he had TT vs Gold Q8 on Q9xdd board)

Moon basically win all the all ins (he won an AQo vs AKo against Ivey, an AQo vs QQ of Begleiter for like a 45M pot, etc), was on the right side of every cooler like AJ vs TT of Balmigere on a KQhT5h2s board but the french guy folded with 5 to 1 river.
He also received a huge UPSament from Billy Kopp when Billy had a baby flush on a paired board all in on the turn against Moon's higher flush for huge chuck of chips before the FT.

I can't really remember a single hand where he owned an opponent.

Yeah Gold played terribly on HSP but most of what we saw on WSOP broadcasts was unconventional but quite effective. He generally had a very good idea of where he was at in hands.

its not very difficult to know where you are in a hand when you flop the nuts every single time.

Whether people think he is a good player or not, he did run over lots of people and did what he had to do. He had the lead for quite a while, so he got the job done, which is all you can ask.

Still amazes me how awful players were back then. Forget about Jaime.. everyone else outside of Cunningham are incredibly worthless. That Lee guy made so many awful mistakes.

Reminds me of that Jerry Yang run.. somehow one of the worst players in the world got matched up against 8 people even worse than he was lol.

Gold played pretty decent.. he was no Yang or anything.

Allen played pretty much perfectly.. folded when Jaime had it/sucked out.. pushed/called when he was bluffing..
