Not very long, but...

In general I disagree with your argument of, "Don't pause to think because you might inspire others to start thinking." I've never seen that happen.

20 seconds seems quick.with that said even if the floor comes over in 10 seconds that means you end up with 90 seconds total to make a decision. there is no reason a decision should ever take longer than this.

So if it's so easy, why the tanking? Snap fold or snap call. Or snap raise. Or take 10 seconds. That's fine too.

Of course you don't see it happen. Nobody says out loud, "I'm going to think about this because I think you're a good player and I'll lose all my money if I don't."

But they think that.

I have never had a clock called on me because I know before I make a bet what I am doing to a re-raise or a jam.
Considering every possible outcome before you bet will probably take more time than simply betting and then deciding what to do when you get raised.

You don't need to consider every outcome. Just decide what you'll do if they minraise and if they shove in response. If they raise somewhere in between minraise and shove and the answers are different, then tank.

I don't understand why people get offended and butthurt when people call clock on them. There is (hopefully) a rule in place in every room, and if the rule is that a player may call clock in a given situation, then that's it. If the rule is that a player may not call clock, then the floor will let him know and the other player can continue tanking. Nobody needs to explain themselves as to the motivations behind their decision to call the clock, and the lame "you're not even in the hand" excuse is bull****. If you were dealt into the hand you are in the hand, even if you turbo mucked preflop without looking at your cards. Everyone dealt in is paying a piece of the rake. If someone calls clock on you, grow up and just act on your hand, and don't take it personally.

Man, I was thinking about this thread last night......Playing 1/2 NL & this drunk guy kept taking for ever to either call or fold.....

then these other 2 guys get in a hand on a 484 board. 1st bets 25, other guy raises to about $110....guy 1 tanks for a good 5 minutes (finally folds). The high hand promotion was over for the night, so no big deal, but if it woulda still been going on I think I woulda called clock on the guy
