To add to Arkyten's analysis, I've played at perhaps 15-20 of these events over the past 5-6 years. I've seen players cash out chips for others, "give" the big stacks their buy in cards after they bust, and buy chips right from another player (while the seller was still playing). There is a limit to winnings in theory but not in practice, it simply is not enforced.....

At two of these charity events where "the authorities" have showed up and once was shut down, the other time I cashed out and left before finding out what happened.

I haven't played in one of these events since last March but I generally I would see 1-2 decent players at the table (sometimes 0) and a mix of old people and 18-25 year olds who play(ed) online.
i'm curious who "the authorities" were. cops? gaming officials?

Feb 29th at Chevy Chase Country Club in Wheeling on Milwaukee and Lake Cook roads there will be a Rockford event benefiting the Wright Way Rescue animal shelter. I am a regular player there and can confirm that cashing out any amount is NOT a problem. Please come play on Wed the 29th and help support the animals who need homes while playing a game you love.

Really impressed with http://www.chicagocharitablegames.com/ for their structures in small buy-in SNGs ($30, 2500 chips, 12 minute blinds) vs Rockford Charitables ($28, 1500, 10 min). Had a tremendous turnout yesterday in Lombard. Had a losing poker week overall, but I will definitely return when CCG is within driving distance. Got in a little short stacked PLO. Never picked up anything but junk. Have a great week and GO BIG BLUE NATION.

No O8? Maybe get the PLO converted to PLO8? I can dream, right?

I'm sure if they got enough interest it would go. The young dealer for the PLO was excellent. Players were running it twice, routinely.

What kind of limit games and stakes do they usually spread at the CCG?

1/2 NLH and 1/2 PLO. Plenty of MTT's and Sng's also. Even mixed games are starting to have a presence there.

Do you happen to know the min/max buyins for those games?

Thanks!

1/2 NLH and PLO used to be 300 but I think they made it 200 now. Tourney buy-ins range from $20 to $100 or so. They have a website.

Anyone know if they are going to be going a WSOP qualifier for a 1K WSOP package like they did in the past. I tried google and could not find anything. They did them in the past at Hawthorne race track and they got 500+ runners. Would like to play in one of these if available. Might just end up going to hammond or another casino if that is all there is.

Anyone still play in these? I remember the cash games being SOFT. Are they still softer than the Horseshoe?

I went there recently, Im a newbie and didnt have the mechanics down. I was betting te wrong amount in the sit and go and am not good at shuffling cards. But the dealer did flash my cards to others when I folded, pretty unprofessional. After the tourney I made a couple hundred in a half hour on the cash game so it may be a soft game but I was lucky.

Ive been going frequently now. Im averaging 200 a night profit so I may as well continue for now. I am a bit annoyed at the cheating dealer now though. I havent played on his table since but that was garbage what he did. If I see him peek at a card again im reporting him and he will likely b eliminated from the dealers pool.

Thse dealers also play, so looking at anyones cards is total bs.

The dealers will peak at your cards on occasion, the time im whining about is that the dealer showed my hand to the guy on his left without asking me. clearly an insider move since im new and relatively clueless. Its not a major issue but I wont play on that dealers table ever again and he is an infrequent dealer so it shouldnt be an issue. I learned a free lesson to not trust him. Another helper was at my table last night and when he left the table he told another I play tight. Whatever- I made 600 so I cant complain.

I did chicago charitable tonight. The venue stunk and the tables were grimy and wobbly. someone took a dump in the urinal... The game was profitable though i made 600 off 200 without any strong plays so its all good.

Phil Hellmuth posted this on his twitter page.

"Hello Chicago!! I'm here to MC--and play in--a Charity Poker Tourney on Tues Night for Holocaust Museum. Gonna raise over a Milly $$!"

Anyone know any details on this charity event?

Changes in the Illinois Charitable gaming laws have produced some positive results for groups like Rockford Charitable Games. I don't know all the details but many of the strict restrictions have been relaxed. Everyone just seems happier. They've added some fun with drawings and new table games.

$5 to $20 Limit Blackjack offered at all events. Watch for upcoming Blackjack Tournaments
Texas Hold-em "Table Game"
NEW $500 DOLLAR WINNING Cash payouts now offered at all events.
$100 for Quads of the Week
NEW $10 & $20 Limit Hold'em & Omaha

Turnout appears to have increased. What else to do in this miserable tundra of a Chitown winter?

This is my place to relieve stress and SO glad they're around. BTW - chopped the 4 table $65 for $540 yesterday. You can find RCG @ChicagoPoker on Twitter. Good Luck at the tables!

Do you mean $10/$20 Limit Hold em? If so good luck getting that game to run.

I guess it doesn't hurt to try but the sad fact is that most people just aren't interested in limit hold em and/or have the bankroll to play 10/20. I for one think it's a great game.

Hollywood aurora spreads it on the regular though. Ever play it?
