Just for fun, I'm sure the majority of online players will turn in to great live players. A few of them will have trouble and it might take a little longer for some, but online players will be fine.

Illinois has started busting events run by Rockford Charitable Games and other similar circuits. Apparently, they have been breaking some rules by having professional dealers that accept tips instead of using volunteers who you can't tip. They are still in business for the moment, though under increased scrutiny.

Under the law, dealers are strictly volunteers for the charities. I asked a guy after a sng what they were paid, and he said tips only. RCG gets consulting fees for providing this roving band of volunteer dealers to the nightly charities. So dept of Revenue is sniffing around about these consulting fees and dealers making any money at all.

This was illustrated 4/22. I was happily tipping at a NL table, and in sauntered the Revenue Robin Hoods, keeping money away from those Wealthy Dealers and in the pockets of the poor players. Suddenly I was not allowed to tip, and at a limit table. Tables were breaking every 10 minutes before I left.

Yea, was there for that; was pretty absurd that they come to Rockford for one, and also that they came at ~10pm on good friday, paying those workers double time to come in and take dealers names; thats all they came for.

Fwiw, after the "black friday" dealio, I play RCG events + homegames around the Greater Rockford/Chicago area, mix of 1/2, 2/5; haven't ever had problems either

i played last week, and took down the $20 Early Bird at Chicago Charity Games and havent seen any trouble. Havent been to Rockford in a while, but havent heard anything about those events either.

Why do governments hate poker, first online, now charity games, and then they approve new casinos and slot machines at the Airports and Racetracks. OH WAIT they only want to keep our gambling money themselves, and they only want us to play house backed games, or stupid slot machines. Why can't they get their ***** together so we can play poker, and they can make some money, and we are all happy.

Re: the Chicago Trib article/Rockford Charitable Games
I played yesterday (European Banquets, Arlington Hts). Been a little rough staying at home and taking care of mom, so I was having as much fun as possible. Decided early on to ask dealers, players if they had seen the posts regarding RCG on 2+2. Nobody had (most never heard of 2+2) I ask a dealer, and she said all the dealers were volunteers (they do take tips). I did several prop bets with a 18 year old ($1-5/prop); picking high cards & the color of flop (won them all). The joint was filled (200+) the entire time I was there (7 hrs). Won a $30 SNG, + several hrs of $1-2 NL (constant straddles) and doubled my buy-in (???) and had a few cocktails. Side Note - If you played connectors all day, you'd have won a ton. Never seen so many straights in my life. PLO never started up (the only thing missing in a really fun day!).

PLO doesn't always get going there, but when it does, it is a great game

Played cash a number of times. Most of the time it is 1 - 2 N/L. I always play the 10 man sit and go's. $25 and $50 buy in. Sit and go's go all the time. Top two paid. Cash varies from one to five tables.

This has been a issue for 15 years. Before the river boats came to the area blackjack was really big at charity events. Dealers used to wear no tipping badges I don't know why they stopped. They have always used the same core of dealers for all games. Past dealers used to be trained to turn down tips.

Just show up and you'll see. The 1-2, 2-5 NL are referred to as T games. Been playing at these events for years. On occasion, they will run PLO, as well.

Played at their event at a high school in Niles, IL. Normally, the events are in banquet halls. This felt awesome as approximately 20+ tables were spread out across the gym floor. From above in the seats, you could imagine yourself at a major event. Twelve tables started the early bird $30 buy-in. I was the last person eliminated in 10th place before the money bubble and that sucked. We had a gentlemen at our table who looked exactly like Doyle Brunson (maybe 20 years ago). He played like a doylette toilet. Fun day. Here's a photo fo the gym.

Hey everyone I just turned 19. Last summer I went to RCG I think twice. It was alot of fun and I want to go more this summer while I can before college. I just have several questions (since the website of RCG is a little tough to navigate for some reason)

One tournament I finished 13th out of 180. It was the $25 "super turbo" tournament. However I didn't get any money. I got to thinking about it and I think I just walked out without asking for my money. Who do you go talk to for your prize?

My bankroll is just starting right now. Basically it is just several hundred dollars based on my next few paychecks. I know that it is poor BR management to play with this little, but what should I play with the ammount of money I have? Should I stick with those tournys or do 1/2?

Speaking of 1/2... how do I know if they are offered? I walked in those two times and was kind of confused as to what I should do.

Any other tips/hints/facts that you can think of are much appreciated.

Also if someone can explain the tipping for the 1/2 cash games...thanks!

I'm almost positive you have to finish at the final table to cash, but I don't see any alternative for you if they were cashing at 13th place. Get familiar with the surroundings before you jump into games. They have two check-ins. One for SNG/Tourneys and the other is cash. Based on your budget, I'd short stack ($60-80$) the 1-2. Don't limp too much. Get it all-in with great draws and high top pairs based on the action in front of you (Beware). If you double up, play a couple $25 + 3 SNGs. GL, it looks like you might need it.

Hey guys, this is my first post and figured I'd start here since I go to the RCG games quite often.

A way to differentiate between the tourney games and cash games is by the color of the balloons at each table. Yellow ones are tourneys, white ones are cash. For the cash games, you usually have to check in to see if there is a list...if it's early in the evening, you'll usually have to wait a few minutes. If it's later in the night, there's usually spots open and you can get in right away. Hope that helps.

As for tips, yes, they accept them. I'll usually tip a buck if I win anything more than just the blinds. If it's a big pot, I'll usually send 2 bucks or so. Really depends on how I'm doing that day, if I'm up big, I may even send a few more...

are the tips necessary? The only reason why I ask is that my bankroll is just starting out. Usually I am not one to stiff...
