There are casinos in Mogadishu/Somalia the country with the lowest GDP in the world.

Other Sub-Saharan African countries are equally poor and might have even cheaper cities that might have casinos.

Not sure why anyone would ask such a question though.

I am pretty sure some of the casinos in central Africa do offer poker.

I know for sure that there's a casino in Mombasa/Kenya has poker, but Kenya is far away from being the poorest country and Mombasa is a comparatively wealthy city. But I am pretty sure you could live outside of Mombasa on significantly less than $100 total a month.

My wife goes to Kenya a few times a year for work. Do not move to Kenya.

Also, if it's cheap to live somewhere I would imagine the games wouldn't be that big to make a lot of money.

Why not?

Granted it's been a while but when I went, it was arguably one of the most politically stable countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Tons of NGOs were based in Nairobi and large parts of the city were full of expats. There was a legitimate university and a reasonable economy, including banking and tourism.

Yea...wonder what is your motivation?

The cheapest cities/countries will also have the cheapest games by-and-large.

It does sound like a fun adventure though.

I heard Panama was nice and cheap and has good poker. No where near the cheapest in the world but worth looking into.

You seem to not want to reveal your motivation and you keep rejecting suggestions because people could not read your mind -- but hopefully others might find this useful:

For those who want to move somewhere cheap to play poker for a living, the two best places I know of are Las Vegas and Zhuhai, China. They aren't the cheapest places with a casino but when you balance earning potential with the cost of living they give you a huge bang for your buck.

Vegas is probably obvious to most here so I'll focus on Zhuhai. It's a border city in Mainland China, just over the border from Macau. It would be much better to live in Macau but it's near impossible to get a long term visa to live there. While it's fairly easy to get one in Mainland China. Zhuahai is a cheap city by American standards and also a cool city to live in. $2,000/month and you're living great. And you can do it for a whole lot less. Under $1,000/month easily if you don't mind living in an old studio in a not-so-great location.

Commuting to play poker is a bit tedious but definitely better than people with regular jobs who commute 1-2 hours a day. Most of your journey is walking over the border or waiting in line to have your passport checked on each side. Shouldn't take more than an hour each way, depending where you live in Zhuhai.

You should have no problem grinding out that lifestyle playing 2-3 days a week at the 10/25 and 25/50 HKD tables (roughly $1/3 and $3/6, the smallest stakes), which run 24/7/365 and depending on the casino, time/day and lineup, play somewhere between $2nl online and a table full of drunk noobs in a play money game.

Ah, this is a great one as well. Manila scares me safety wise but ya, great place to grind and live very cheap.

15 years ago, sure. But now the country is not so stable as it once was. When my wife is there she is told not to leave the hotel alone at any time, even to go two blocks to Starbucks, but to only go out with several other people and stay together. Other places in Africa are much better. She was just in Uganda and surprisingly (at least to me) there were no issues going out alone.

Are you sure that people in Kenya just aren't overly concerned and people in Uganda underly concerned? I'd probably agree with the suggestion that a non-African woman stay in a group in either country. Mzungus attract attention and it's not always good.

I mean in the end you've pretty much nailed it on the head - I was there 19 years ago, before most of this Al Shabab **** went down (and before the embassy bombings too). So maybe it's just (sadly) deteriorated since.

A bit off topic but is there anywhere in Africa with a western standard of living? I know no whole countries but what about cities or even districts?

Luanda/Angola is the most expensive city in the world for expats according to a Mercer study.

Also worth checking out:

A friend of mine has been living in Nigeria for the past 4 years, working for one of the bigger international venture builders. One of the startups he was involved with sells designer sunglasses online in Western Africa. Like everywhere else in the world, as soon as there's oil or other significant amounts of natural resources, there are at least some very rich people.
