I was in a tpirnamen at borgata I didn't think talking on phones was allowed but I noticed guy next to me playing with iPod touch so I didn't think there would be a problem with checkking my email on my iphone so. I began to do just that. Then dealer chimes in with his 2 cents says no cell phones . So I say i'm not on phone but checking my email. ( they have wifi) so he says email or texting not allowed either. So I say if this gentleman canplay with iPod then I can play with mine too since that's essentially what the iPhone is. Then dealer And several other players become irate and start insisting that I'm not allowed to check email at table. So I call floor over but the td comes over instead and says it fine just no talking on phone anything else is ok. So I ask if I can watch porn on iPhone and he even ok'd that so I thought dealer was a dooshbag for making up and enforcing his own rules. Incidentally I think this is a good rule and you shouldn't be allowed to talk on phone due to rudeness and slowing down the game for a tourney. But in a cash game I think the players who are paying thehouse to play shoulld police the game themselves and decide if and when falling on phones is ok l. Depending on the particular players/ fish some players/sonators should be able to have a whole different set of rules
Also in a cash game the dealer shoud just deal and handle game related issues and not worry if sommeones talking on phone or eating or whatever
Does anyone agree?

No because the dealer's job is to enforce the house rules especially in lower limit games. This is to protect the newer players, the players who don't want to be deemed "jerks" by speaking up and the integrity of the game. If the dealer is doing their job by enforcing the rules the table captain can concentrate on the game.

See http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/27...rs-b-m-424827/ for the definition of table captain.

Sounds like you were basically looking for a fight.

Your "Let's Make up the rules as we feel like it" strategy would work great at a table full of guys like yourself just looking for fights and rule loopholes. I'm certain there'd never be any angle-shooting nor taking advantage of players who don't look for conflict. Believe it or not, many players - even good, experienced players - don't like to have to negotiate house rules every few minutes.

Oh, and spell check for the win.

I also have a IPhone, I play in Vegas where I live and in Phx AZ where I work. For the most part communication devices are not aloud. The idea is not the rudeness but the ability to give information to other players which would be cheating. I am not saying you were cheating I am saying talking, texting and emailing could be used to tell your brother in law what cards you have. That is why they are not aloud. The Floor was just defusing the situation and the dealer was not making up his own rules. When I use the IPod part of my phone I have been asked if I was using the phone features by a floor and showed that I wasn't without any problems and we all move on to the next hand.
Just my thoughts.

See. The "problem" is you're looking for a technicality. So, yes, that means you're looking for a fight. I can't believe you'd be any more agreeable at a table when the rules are being negotiated at will by the players. Why do people feel this overwhelming need to check their stinking E-mail while sitting at the Poker Table?

NO SIR THATS NOT THE CASE. The td came over and said fla out that it is ok to use your phone to do whatever except to talk on.
i think texting shouldnt be alowed either thats probably a good way to cheat by telling buddy at other end of table your cards guys cards next to yuo etc.
i was only clarifying the rules simply because i wanted to follow them strictly which is impossibe without knowing what they are and if the dealer doesnt know he should make it his business to find out all rules before stepping into the box sir

Maybe for the convenience of players waiting for a seat, or hanging out in the food areas, or generally to use when you're not seated at the stinking tables!!!

So because someone reads a book, it should be OK for you to be rude in your own way?

Seriously, judging by your belligerence in this thread I stand by my initial read. You come here and ask for opinions. When you get some that go against your position you get confrontational and defensive. I'm guessing you were in a similar mode when just trying to "clarify" the technicalities of the electronic device rules.

No, sir, reading a book is generally not okay either.

The problem isn't that the dealer was picking on you, the problem is that not all dealers and floor are on the same page regarding rules or the reasoning behind them.

I agree with those suggesting you're looking for a fight, sir.

Technically you weren't playing with your iPod. The iPod is a music player. It's an application within the iPhone. You were checking email.

Why are you looking for excuses to be a douchebag, sir? Why can't you be nice and play along? We're all in this together. The world is not out to get you, sir.

We can bring another point into this and that is that if you come west good luck getting your IPhone or IPod Touch in the door. They have gotten sorta touchy about them lately. Best bet is to just go along and not cause problems. How many hands did not get played while this argument was going on? Was the dealer unhappy with you at this point? What about the other players spesificlly the ones who voiced an opinion that you could not use your Phone at the table.
If a guy wants to read a book and not pay attention to what he is doing that is his problem. If you are emailing or listening to your IPod then you may miss a play at the table and delay the game.

I use an ipod touch, which at Borgata is cool because their hotel wifi reaches the poker room and most of the casino. I'll only touch it once I've folded a hand, for music or internet reasons.

I don't see how it isn't feasible to do since they already run AC to the auto shufflers, but i don't know if there would be another issue doing so.
Why is it that we are getting to the point where we cannot go anywhere, do anything or feel completely vulnerable without our beloved <insert some electronic communication/entertainment device here>?

Really? You had to leave because you couldn't listen to music and/or text and/or call and/or facebook and/or tweet????

What's next multi-tabling on laptops, while playing live?

No disrespect, but come on.

This is perhaps the thing that bothers me the most in a poker room.

Phone in hand should = no hand dealt to you.

It's not just the phone calls (which are the most rude), it's the texting and browsing.

I was at the B this summer and they 86'd a player after repeated attempts to remind them that "no communication device use is permitted while sitting at the table". Sad part was, he was the donator in the game. Worth it, though.

Best rule ever.

You wanna talk/text/browse. No problem. Get the **** up and move away from the table.

Yeah, it may have been sounding a bit bitchy, but after a 9 hour session in the same chair, it would have been nice to listen to some more tunes as opposed to hearing the guy next to me calling out every single board card as it hit.

Yet look around, pretty much 2/10 at a table are nearly guaranteed to fiddling with their devices at any one time but I don't think we'll ever ultimately meet your delusions of grandeur.
