I'm skeptical of this only because the subset of humanity that flies on airplanes is pretty different from the subset of humanity that gambles in a casino. I tend to avoid LAS as a stopover when flying because, quite frankly, people getting on and off the plane at LAS are different than the people who get on and off the plane at DEN.
I can buy that there will be increased foot traffic in casinos that ban smoking, but I need to be convinced that the action gained from "would gamble but for the smoke" types would outweigh the action lost from "can't plop myself down and smoke and drink and gamble for 10 hours straight" types.
Perhaps if there were some convenient place for people to smoke and drink nearby - such as banning smoking on the actual gaming floor but putting a well-ventilated bar within eyesight ...
