I play at the only no limit holdem table at Sky City, Queenstown, New Zealand.

The blinds are $2/$5 and the min buy in is $50 and the max just $200.

The rake is 10% per hand!

The cap is an almighty $20!!!!

Could this obscene rake be the biggest rake in the whole wide world?

Does anyone play anywhere where the rake is more than this?

I would doubt it.

Aren't there places in Australia that take 10% uncapped?

I thought Puerto Rico had the biggest rake in the world at 10% with a $10 cap plus an extra $1 jackpot drop for every player that stays in the pot until the river.

I thought people where the biggest morons in the world to play in those games but $20 cap is just WOW.

I think Gran Casino Barcelona is capped at 25 euro, and 10 euro is reasonable over there.

This information may be grossly inaccurate, but if so, I am only repeating inaccuracies I've read elsewhere.

Come to beautiful Macau,
The rake on the $HK 50/100 is $HK 200 which equals approx. $NZ 40.

Queenstown sounds positively cheap

It might be the biggest rake for a casino but I have seen some clubs in NYC rake 10% almost unlimited. One pot was about $500 and the rake was $50. Beleive it or not some of the players in that game were so weak and the game so soft that it was still a beatable and profitable game. Some of these clubs or private games as they call them now have such high rakes that it is really unbelievable.

That is unbelievable. How much do people spew there for that game to be beatable. I thought when I played in a room in Long Island that $8/hand was bad but geez. GL

The game is often very soft and we have many tourists sit who like to gamble or are pretty clueless.

After just under 1000 hours I average 3.5BB per hour. Not great for a $2/$5 table but considering the rake, its not bad IMO. Its more than the average wage here of $15. The dealers don't even get $16 an hour.

If I can win with this rake and small starting stack, I figure I could do well in Vegas or at the Crown in Melbourne where the rake is so much lower.

At Star City in Sydney, the $5/$5 $200-$500 buy-in game has a 10% rake with a $10 cap to go along with it's time charge of $10 an hour.

This is way more expensive than just tipping out your dealers people.

These are the types of fees and rake we'd be facing if players stopped tipping.

It doesn't really have much to with tipping.

Much more to do with being the only game in town - to wit, running a monopoly in a non-competitive market.

I've heard that some of the 5/10 games in monte carlo have 10% uncapped too.

eh, you're pretty much right. The casino or club is going to rake whatever they can.

My understanding for the super high rake in Aussie land is justified due to the no tipping policy towards any staff member. Tipping may even be illegal?

Imagine how high the rake would be in LV or Cali if the dealers couldn't take tips was kind of my lame-o point.

At the 10/25 games in underground clubs around nyc the rake regularly can be $500-$700 a half

Am I right to say that it is ridiculous to sit in a game with this high of a rake? First of all it is taking a ****load of chips off the table. Second of all it WILL KILL your profit in the long run. If you and the other players that play in these games stop playing in them, and tell them why, the casino/card room will be forced to lower their rake if they want to stay in business. That being said it will be hard as hell to convince some of the idiots in these games that they are getting raped for rake.

ha, that's funny. What they would really do is replace the poker tables with gaming tables or slot machines. Poker has to be competitive in regards to revenue per table to justify it's existence on the casino floor.

Also, I don't know what the gaming tax for the casinos is in Australia, but in Macau its almost 40%.

this could happen but i really hope dealing becomes the $10/hr job that it really should be. its a labor job which requires one to two weeks of school and minimal skills with minimal brain capacity..... my laborers do harder work and i pay them $10/hr. i tip only on big pots but im starting to question that as well........

youll see a lot of low limit 'pros' in LV who have been at the low limits for 10+ years. its because they tip $2/hand and tip on small pots too much.

Obviously the kind of thinking that leads one to crush high stakes games.

I am fairly certain when I donked around on a holiday at Wrest Point Casino in Tasmania that the rake was uncapped on a $200 max buyin game.

To be fair there was only 3 tables of which more than one was rarely running.
