California Highway 101 Roadtrip - any insight on stops? California Highway 101 Roadtrip - any insight on stops?

Hello,

Sometime in December I plan on driving from SF to LA along Highway 101 and stop at Poker Rooms along the way. I mostly play low limit No/Spread Limit in LA and at The Oaks. My plan is this. Let me know if I am missing anything or if my stops are poorly timed based on action...

Trip down will be on a Tuesday. The stops will be Chumash Casino at Aprox 11am and then Hollywood Park in the evening. I am not worried about finding action on the way down.

On the way back up it will be a Friday. The stops I am planning are...
Bankers Casino later afternoon
Garlic City Casino Evening
Garden City Casino Night

Any comments welcome as well as info on structure.

Thanks!

I wouldn't consider the player's club (in Ventura) exactly tiny. Chumash has lost A LOT of action to players club..Any given night the place is extremely packed. I'd ditch chumash and just go straight to ventura..nice beach town so beats the nothingness of santa ynez..just my $0.02

Just so you know, the Chumash poker room won't have any no limit besides their $1/2 going at 11 am on a tuesday most likely that is a $60 buy in. It is super soft but if you want to play higher the $2/5 game doesn't go until late afternoon/evening. If you can and like tournaments, they have morning tournaments that are low buy in and really soft at 10 I think. May want to check their website to be sure.

Since the Player's Club in Ventura moved off the Avenue and down to the car dealerships by the freeway, it has just exploded in popularity. For cash games, clearly superior to the Chumash now. I still give Chumash the edge on their daily tournaments over Player's Club. But over all, head to Ventura.

Great info! Thanks! Ventura has a very poor website so I thought it was smaller than it is. I may just go there. I know of the very small room in Paso Robles and I think there is one in Atascadero but I want there to be some action when I stop.

With this info I may just add a stop at Ventura, check out Chumash for a shorter time. I am trying to time the stop at Chumash to catch the tourney players busting out. The size of the game doesn't concern me, I just want there to be action.

Thanks for the info.

I played in the Oceana card room maybe 6-7 years ago. They have 2 tables, at the time they were 3-6 and 4-8 limit hold 'em. Pretty much locals only. Kinda fun though.

the main reason ventura has gotten better is, yes... the move to a better location... but also the fact that now the north county folks do not need to run through san marcus pass to get to a good room. for those that are still above santa ynez, chumash is still MUCH closer.

Hustler isn't that much further past Hollywood Park during non-rush hours and has a better structure for lower limit NL games then HPC. HPC just remodeled though and I haven't been there yet to see what's changed. I would go to both if you can, maybe drive to Hustler after 7pm.

Also add another vote for Players Casino now that they have moved.

I am very familiar with the LA Casinos. I like playing at Hustler before I moved to SF. Anyone know if Hollywood Park got new chips with the renovation? That is the main reason I am stopping at HP.

Also any info on Bankers or Gilroy?

Thanks for all of the help.

Coming from NorCal I would advise this on the trip:

Chumash (the cash games get pretty good in the morning once all the players start to bust. Table is generally LAG b/c plaers get a $20 credit for playing in the tournament).

Players Club..any time of day you're going to find action..ohhhh, and literally just around the block you can make a stop at in n out! otherwise they pc has really god tri tip sandwiches..

I'd ditch hollywood park and go straight to commerce. Need I say more?

Hustler..

players club still gets my vote..the 5/10 game on weekend nights runs pretty big, I'm talking guys sitting with $30K stacks at some point!

I am only going to HP to possibly get a new chip (after their renovation). I used to play regularly at Commerce and the days I spend in LA will be at Commerce and Hawaiian Gardens.

I know it is out of the way (not really on 101) but I'd consider stopping for a few hours at the Palace in Hayward. If you play at the Oaks on a frequent basis you'll find the Palace is not all that far away.

you haven't lived until you've banged heads with the locals at Hawaiian Gardens in the VIP area. despite the low reviews, I like the place(great table food) and I have played with some well known pros there.

Thanks! I will be sure to play the Palace next time I rent a car. I play at the Oaks because Bart gets me close.

I like to collect chips from room that I play at so I have played at quite a few of the Bay Area card rooms but not the Palace yet...

Morris,

I am thinking of going to The Palace over Thanksgiving break. Is this really the structure? (from their site)

"The No Limit Holdem game at the Palace has blinds of $1/$2/$2 with a bring in of $5. There are two optional kills of $5 and $10 which make the bring in $10 and $20 respectively. Don’t let the small size of the blinds fool you – The action in our No Limit often gets very big."

The smallest game there plays like $10/$20?
