Get off your freaking high horse already. Believe it or not, it's possible to be negligent and kill somebody without being drunk. It's also possible to be legally drunk (BAL over 0.08) yet have little noticable impact on faculties.
The guy (allegedly) broke the law and is almost certainly paying the price for getting caught. He's not trying to justify it, he just wants to try to live his life while dealing with the consequenses. Leave the judging to the judges.
Op, it's been quite a while since I've been "on paper" (I'm an unabashed pothead myself), but I don't remember there being a whole lot of restrictions on places you could go. Certainly there are travel restrictions, like for me I couldn't go outside a 3-county area where I live. I'd imagine a big part of this is if it's felony probation or misdemeanor, as I know felony probation is much more restrictive.
