Why the dealer took his cards? Who know, but it happens. Dealer sees cards sitting there by themselves and just auto grabs them. I did this once many years ago when I dealt and will never forget it. IDK why I grabbed them, just instinct on auto pilot. If you hold onto your cards it will be hard for the dealer to take them by accident.
And then the players and dealers saying we can't see whether i have cards, when my island sized paw is on them or pinching them...

But I do it anyway..... I was in a mega sat a few years ago.... Same situation as OP 11 left bubble at 9 for $5,000 buying to main. I am in seat 7, in late position QQ flop a set call all in , dealer yapping away to local reg reaches over not looking and pulls my cards from under a chip marker. Wtf?

I'm crippled , game over soon after.

Life lesson if I'm in a pot my hand is on my cards.. Until the pot is shipped, and all other hands mucked.

OP I know your pain, been there too

Holy cow, this thread is still going on? It was done with post 5, sorry to hear but protect your cards. About the worst situation for it to happen to you, though. Don't worry, it'll happen plenty in live poker if you play enough, and it gets easier every time. Now I'm down to, "Meh, guess I'll wait for this next hand." It actually feels worse as a dealer than a player, at least for me. Well, other than when it was my turn to deal at a home cash game, I flopped a set, and then realized I had mucked my own hand. Would have won a huge pot, too, but oh well, onto the next one. Now even when I'm the dealer I throw a chip on my cards to protect them.

I know it feels TERRIBLE as a dealer to muck someone's hand, but I'd never call myself the victim in the situation and try to tell that player that I feel worse than they do. I know what you meant...just have to be sensitive to the situation. It's kinda like if a driver in a car hit a pedestrian. "I feel worse than you do!" isn't going to make the guy feel better and can only infuriate the guy lol.

Better to have to say "Hold on, I still have a hand."
than to leave your hand laying there completely unprotected and lose it.

It not all that hard to keep 3 or 4 finger firmly on the cards while leaving half of them in clear view.
