Have a chance to deal part-time in the Mid-Atlantic region, but I'm very concerned I won't be licensed due to bad credit. Just what are the odds I get rejected?
I think that answer will be dependant on the specific licensing body....you might want to call them.

Here in vegas credit is not an issue for gaming (for dealers) but mant casinos do credit checks as part of their background checks.

I'm a traveling dealer so I've dealt with a lot of different licensing agencies and have heard stories about more. The only time I've heard of bad credit being an issue is in Florida and that may just be a Seminole tribe thing.

Every state/tribe is different. There's no reason not to apply for a license and see what happens. Make sure you disclose EVERYTHING they ask for, they freak out if you leave something out and they find it on a background check.

If you fail, go one state over and you'll probably get in just fine.

I have never heard of someone's license being rejected for credit. I do know someone that was offered a job, paid for the license and then when he went by HR to pick up his license they rescinded the job offer for credit. I would be much most worried about the casino's HR policy then a regulatory issue.

Note: the above applies to the sort of license a dealer or supervisor would get, not what a manager might need (often called a key license).

Edit to add: Some states require that you be current on things such as student loans.

In NJ it was a 21 page application for gaming license 2-1 not key (non manager) and credit was af ew pages of it. I had some large debts from a failed business, and i even think some were in collections at the time, so i was worried. But I got my license. I made sure i disclosed everything.

I dealt a super disgusting gross hand a few hours ago...

Game from last night. $1/$3 w/$5 bring-in cash game.

EP opens to $15. MP 3-bets to $50. Button flats the $50. EP 4-bet jams for $145. MP 5-bet rejams for $444.
Button says, “I’m either going home early or staying late.”
I bet you can see where this is going…

Button moves all-in for $800 and change. The three of them table their hands before the flop.
EP has AA. MP has KK. Button has QT offsuit.

Flop is TT8, turn is Q, river is a blank 3.

“**** you Ian”, says the two stacked players. I’m paraphrasing here but that’s basically what they said.

I felt the pain on that one.

At this point I'm surprised when there is an all in on or before the flop and something brutal DOESN'T happen.

I think I can remember about 10 hands from my entire dealing career. Over half of them were royals.

One hand that stands out was at a 2/5 NL table. The flop came 10 10 10. The turn was a 10. One guy went all-in. Two others called. All 3 players tabled their hands. One guy had an Ace-x hand. Another guy had K-x. The last guy had pocket Jacks. The river was an Ace for a 3-way chop. I remember being supremely disappointed that the two players holding a Jack and a King weren't punished for their stupidity.

Last night a player asked me if I'd dealt any bad beats lately. My answer is every hand is a bad beat to the loser.

Dealing today 1-3 NL. Don't remember the specific action but on the turn 4 seat bets $45, 5 seat was tilted and calls, river 4 seat ships, 5 seat snap calls, 4 had turned a set of 9s, 5 seat rivered set of 10s. 2 hands later new player in the 4 seat gets all in when a 9 hits the river. Shows 99 for FH 5 seat shows 1010 for flopped FH. I usually make fun of players that call certain sets unlucky but i would have sat out rather than play in that seat today.

A little more than a year ago I wrote an impassioned plea of a letter to management outlining the problems with our dealer chairs.

New ones finally went into the poker room today.

I mean yeah, I see big action hands commonly but not when the player clearly knows he's wayyy behind and calls off for $500.

Aces over kings, kings over queens sure. But not calling off against 2 players with QTo.

I deal some pretty juicy private games, but most of the time people aren't THAT stupid.....

Yeah, must just be here. I watch someone call off their $200 stack after only having $20 into it with a gutshot "just cuz" all the time. I guess if I had their money I'd probably burn mine, but still doesn't change the fact that they're not so smart.
