The deep game at Bay101 is definitely not always running. I don't play lhe but your nlhe info is not at all accurate.
The deep stack 2/3/5? When are you checking, 4 am Wednesdays? It's been running every time I have been in there.

both matrix and bay101 are usually pretty solid games going all the time, especially in the 2/3/5 range

It only ran Saturday because it ran through the night Friday. I have never seen this happen ever, and none of the regs I talked to have played on a Saturday either. Just fwiw. I wish it happened, but Saturdays are usually pretty dead, at least above 2/3/5 deep.

Maybe. Obviously most, if not all, the players I saw Saturday were not there Friday. I was there in the mid-afternoon and San Jose has the 20 consecutive hour ban. Not to mention there was a list.

"Best" and "softest" are not synonymous.

This is why I specified softest for vegas

That would be incorrect. Many got away with playing over 20, but the ones who didn't played ~8-10pm into the same time frame the next day (6-10).

Anyone have any idea if the age old "1 BB per hour" is still achievable at 40/80 or even 80/160 FR LHE, specifically at Bay 101? Hell even 0.75 BB/hr is pretty damn nice at 80/160.

Not sure which games are best to target, so to speak. I have a good deal of experience in NL, though it's been mostly short handed and online. I am always committed to learning different formats, and putting in the necessary work to get as profitable as possible. I would think there is more income potential at 80/160 LHE than there is at say 2/3/5 deep. Really have no idea what to expect in terms of opposition and profit potential at the bigger games---5/5/10 and 10/25. You think some guys are hitting $100/hr at those bigger NL games....meaning $100/hr as an average?

You've made some very astute points regarding the social isolation aspects of poker imho calli.

A lot of this has been gleaned from jesse8888's blog. Not sure if it's appropriate to pimp it but he was a SFBA recreational LHE player who went pro for a few years and then went back to computer programming. He's a smart, funny guy who is pretty honest in his blog so you get a real taste of what it's like to be a pro. He also has a Well in SSLHE which is fun to read (the thread started when he went pro, and was updated like 5 years later).

One of the themes you see running through the blog is his struggle to maintain a "normal" life - having a long term relationship, struggling for hours and good games, etc.

If you're talking about Bay 101/M8trix, note that there are no tourists. Just about everyone is a reg. You would have to be quite a good LHE player to make .75 BB per hour. If you didn't know, variance is higher in LHE than NL, so you would need a sizable bankroll.

I know a few people playing in the bigger NL games but I don't ask their winrate. But you're only talking about a 10 bb or 4 bb winrate, so I would imagine it's entirely probable that someone is winning at that rate. There might even be people in the 2/3/5 deep stacks that are winning at that rate.

This is super misleading.

1. There are basically no tourists anywhere in the SFBA, any game any stakes. It's not a poker destination.

2. Regs aren't solid. The fish are regulars. As a matter of fact, a big part of beating 40/80+ is beating people who are small winners or even solid winners at smaller games.

3. The "tourists" who do show up aren't drunks who wander in off the Strip. They're usally visitors from the LA area or other large poker markets, and they are regs somewhere.

The whole idea of the reg/fish dichotomy is a throwback to the mid-00's where tons of people who had never played poker would try it on vacation. It's 10 years later now, and nobody is really playing for the first time anymore.

Reading thru some of his blogs paints a good picture of the realities of grinding. Thanks for the info. I enjoyed sifting thru his threads.

What are people's thoughts on Phoenix poker specifically talking stick. I would assume their 3-5 is softer than average Vegas 2/5 and living is cheap as well. Anyone?

Rake at TS is about 50% more.
TS is more of a private club type atmosphere.
Free covered parking 30 yards from your table at TS.
2/5 at Venetian gives you a lot more in rakeback; you're eating like a king at Venetian.
The game at TS is actually a spread limit game, which doesn't matter if your stack is $500, but does matter if your stack is $5,000.
You see a lot of incompetent players at TS, but they're mostly at the lower stakes (easily exploitable, never change gears, etc.).

I personally prefer the spread limit because I don't bank a lot from implied odds.
