Bent cards question Bent cards question

Playing lsnl at a large room. Two hands in a row I get different aces that are noticeably bent. Next hand I see the guy next to me has a bent card, gets to showdown and sure enough, another ace, all 3 were different suits.
How do you handle this situation?
Obviously ask for new setup but do you announce why?

Yup. Tell the dealer exactly what you told us. Repeat it to the floor if asked. There's no real reason not to tell them. On the odd chance a deck worth of bent aces rings a bell with them about a past incident or a questionable player, you may be helping more than just by getting a new setup in play.

Tell dealer. Yes I am looking for damaged cards, but it's not anywhere near the top of my ongoing chores list.

Not only that, but if you just ask for a setup the deck with the bent aces may end up back in play. If you point out the bent cards they will get taken out of the deck and replaced.

Two good reasons. Somebody bent them intentionally to cheat. Or.. High cards get held , handled , and bent much more than lower cards that are quickly discarded , so some damage occurs from time to time. Regardless , it should be brought up to the dealer and dealt with. Casinos have lots of new decks in the back room.

A good floor will remove both decks and check them both.

Never in my life have I seen a floor THAT "good".

I tell the dealer as soon as I fold or the hand is over. In Vegas, they don't get a new setup, just a replacement card.

So I told dealer who at first argued with me that the last one was not bent (it was) and grudgingly agrees to new setup after another player speaks up that they had also noticed.
No floor informed that I could tell which seemed strange. Maybe they are just so used to nonsense setup requests that they cant call floor every time.
Did feel like I outed myself as someone who was actually paying attention.

^ Only a few folks were likely paying attention to the fact that you were paying attention.

It may be that the room is not replacing cards appropriately and the dealers and floor staff know that all the cards are bent and damaged and management isn;t going to replace them so they have just come to grips with this ... which explains why the dealer is arguing its not bent. What he really means is its no more bent then all the other cards....

One of my favorite versions of this is when I have pointed out that a particular card or cards have worn spots that make them identifiable ... and rather than replace the cards the staff just assures me that its caused by the shufflemaster .... as though knowing that makes the fact that I can identify cards by their backs somehow okay.

When I was new to poker, I noticed a guy sitting across from me putting a tiny rip in the side of a card. I got the card later, and it was a 3d.

obviously ask for new set up. Just to not look like a guy too detail oriented (as it might work against your image), probably just say that you noticed that one of the cards is bent, the one you're holding. They should immediately exchange the deck.

I've done this many times, but I've never seen 4 cards bent to **** like you have. You're probably in a really riggy game. gtfo

When you muck or go to showdown alert the dealer to your concerns (yes, all aces) and let things go from there. The one person at the table who 'doesn't really care' if the cards are changed is your man!!

Then ask for a deck that's mainly been used for euchre so you can make out all the cards from 10+. Went to a New Year's party one time and they were playing NLHE with a 'euchre' deck and all the backs of the cards were more faded from the extra use. After about 2 orbits I told them to change the deck and all my bets were given the utmost respect after that!! GL

Minor derail...have your friends save money and purchase a pinochle deck for their euchre. They will get two for the price of one. Even better they can switch to double deck bid euchre. But if they switch and want to play for cash points please ask them to invite my wife and I. Paid for all our dates and then some back in college off that game.

Thats my favorite part.

Another player saw it and was using it to his advantage... But chimed in once the cat was out of the bag...
