And Bellagio, when someone buys into a 4-8 game for $200, please don't give them a rack of blue and a stack of reds. It's just dumb to constantly have to make change in a limit game. These things kill the flow of LHE.
+1. I hated having multiple denomination chips in the 8-16 game. When I'm playing limit I'm tracking bets, not dollars. When I raise, I think about putting two bets out. Having to count dollars just slows me down and because I'm stuipid, I've also raised when I meant to call on more than one occasion. That's why I like LA. You can't play the 8-16 with $5 chips. They almost always make you change them.

Unscientific studies prove $2 8/16 has bigger pots and more action than $5 10/20.
It's the players not the chips. Back east you'd think 10/20 with 2/4 chips is the best structure in the world vs an 8/16 LV rocksville.

That being said I am disappointed that the only place I knew of where I could play 15/30 is gone.

You also like to fold your boat when the flush hits too though.

In my experience the 8/16 hasn't run at the B in my past 3 trips to Las Vegas. I'm wondering if the 10/20 will gain legs or just die out after a brief "cinderella" period.

LOL. I can play 15-30 in a club that is just twenty minutes away from my front door.

You might be better off if you decided that making money was more important than playing some fictitious idea of "real" NLHE.

Buy-ins over 100BB kill action. It makes short-sighted pros happy, but not fish who might be intimidated by deep stacks. And if you would think about it, you'd realize you want to play with fish, not with pros.

Also, if you would think about it, you'd realize that "short buy-in" games are actually just as fairly seen as "large blind" games.

And if you're afraid to play with large blinds, relative to stacks, grow a set.

There's a reason Cali games have so much action. 9-handed games with large blinds makes for a LOT more action than 10-handed games with little blinds, like Vegas has.

Comp points at Bellagio?

What's the LOL for?

The Bellagio installed a Bravo system over a year ago. You get comps there like any other Las Vegas poker room.

I guess that shows how little I know about Vegas/Bellagio these days. Only poker I've played recently has been at Venetian.

Re: bellagio changing their limit games

Now that the first full weekend of this debacle has passed, can anyone give an update? Here's what I'm curious about:
1. Does Bellagio still have as many mid-limit tables going as previously? Has it increased, decreased, or stayed the same?
2. Are the players in the games bitching and moaning about the stakes or do they seem happy, or are they all clueless that there was a change?
3. Are the games playing as predicted - $10-20 lots of limping, little raising, and a general snooze fest. $20-40 ultra aggressive tight play with only 2-3 players per pot?
4. Most importantly - has the Venetian been getting $15-30 or $30-60 now?

I haven't been yet, but I would assume 10-20 & 20-40 will continue to play like the 15-30 did, and 40-80 will be that tight ultra aggro you're worried about

Aria has been getting a 15 game going the last couple of days. Any updates on the Venetian?

I was at the Bellagio on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

It seemed to be to be a great success. They had plenty of games running at all three stakes and I didn't hear any complaints.

I just can't wrap my head around why 8/16 wouldn't run but 10/20 would...

Because the floor did not promote it, and they had to use $5s and $1s.

Re: bellagio changing their limit games

I love 15-30 at the Bellagio. I guess I'll try the 10-20 next time I'm there but I agree with the skepticism aboot it.

For a long time there was a very soft 5-10 O8 at Mirage, maybe 10-20 LH will be similar.

Re: bellagio changing their limit games

using 5s and 1s to play 8/16 sounds like a nightmare and a half. Ocean's in San Diego where I play does $2 chips and that's fine by me.

I'm not sold on 2 chip/4 chip structure being bad. If we are talking about effects on fish thinking then wouldn't it be better because they will think "o it's just 4 more chips to go to showdown, lets see what this jerk has... o he beats me" as opposed to "damn I have to count out 8 chips just to call this dbag who's been running the table over, i'll fold"

So Venetian is running 8/16, is that with a kill? Bellagio 10/20. Any other 8/16 out there? I've played about 12 hours of it recently and ran hot so I love the game haha.

Re: bellagio changing their limit games

8/16 at V is not a kill. The only other place in Vegas I have ever heard of with 8/16 was Orleans and I don't think it goes there anymore.

i will say 8/16 with a Kill is fantastic btw. Bad fish that see the rake taking almost all their money at 4/8 or need more action for their addiction move up to 8/16 then end up playing in 16/32 pots against me. It's beautiful.

i love kill pots. fish who play 8-16 suddenly find themselves in a 12-24 or 16-32 hand against me. What's not to love?

Re: bellagio changing their limit games

The 8/16 game at the Bellagio wasn't that bad using $1 and $5 chips. If you could add (8+8=16, 16+16=32) then you could quickly get the chips right. I can see how it may have slowed the game down though since the dealer would be making change more often... Could go either way??

I only played it a few times, but I thought it went pretty smooth. Some of the fish don't mind throwing 6 fives and a couple singles in the pot for a raise when I think they probably would have folded if they had to put in 16 two dollar chips.

lol at the idea of a 30-60 running at the V regularly. There just aren't that many LHE players left. Thank god the one room in town that runs medium stakes games finally went to the superior format. Maybe one day they'll go to 9 handed also.
