I've been there about ten years ago and played there for a month straight and I couldn't even fathom anyone giving anyone any type of abuse. And I'm pretty sure I overtipped while I was there, too, which was probably in account that they also allowed their dealers to play there, too. It was just a really nice atmosphere.

Good times

Obviously I'm sure I'll find out one of these days, but I really seriously doubt the floor would ignore a dealer's legitimate complaint of abusive conduct.

I think our floor and management have a reputation for not allowing that type of stuff to fester.

I once got the floor involved when a customer was out of line (while I was a clerk) and they dealt with it promptly and the player apologized. I can't see why they wouldn't treat the dealers the same way.

Of course there are probably some floor that are better/more proactive than others but you figure that out pretty quickly.

I can't recall if somebody told me or I read it on here but they said they were playing at commerce and the player got super pissed at the dealer ordered a hamburger then when he came out he put mustard and ketchup on it and then proceeded to drill the dealer in the chest with it. This received a prompt 24 hour bad

worst things ive seen or been around that happened.

both bobby brazil and n+++++ nate peed on a dealers leg under the table.

a guy bit part of the dealers ear off.

seen dealers spit on, cursed at, hit, spilled drinks on, cards thrown hard at their face, coughed in their face, and none of those times anything major was done to the player.

Did you step up and say something?

If I were any one of those dealers I'd be pressing charges(aside from the cursing and the coughing) and then I'd be going to the Gaming Commission and wondering why nothing happened to these pigs and why management refused to do anything about it. As a spectator of the game, I would have done the same. Disgraceful.

that was a long time ago. and you minded your own business. and the dealers were grownups and employees and as a customer it isnt my business to get into theirs.
plus back then dealer abuse was rampant and if you took the job you expected it, but not to that extent of course.

Los Angeles area poker, not just commerce as HG and the bike are exactly the same, is unlike any other area in the world when it come to absolutely outrageous player behavior. At commerce the reason is simple, highly aggressive Armenian gambling addicts who lack any type of impulse control are pretty much given license to act in any manner they wish by Armenian ownership and Armenian floor staff.

The bottom line is none of the casinos want to draw a line in the sand when it comes to player behavior as the other competing casinos will welcome any banished players with open arms.

As for the dealers. In LA most of the dealers are dolce conflict avoiding asian imagrants many of whom are small quiet women who make easy targets for the abuse of degens who aren't hitting their gutshot draws.

I worked with a guy like that. Except he never actually made *threats*... but once...

Note - worked. Past tense.

One threat was what it took.

Nobody thought he meant it, either. Didn't matter. Insta-fire.

its a new day and no casino should tolerate any abuse from any side. but for that to happen it will take more time. great strides have been made already.

Amen to that.

Theres a lot about poker today that I'm not as happy with as I was back in the day about 20+ years ago; for instance, I loved when poker had a more "underground" feel to it...I actually preferred it when there weren't kids standing up "high-fiving" one another. But, and although I have never witnessed what you have witnessed(in regard to that dispicable behavior) I do remember when the dealers weren't treated fairly and to that I say "I'm happy to see where poker has come thus far".

Most dealer abuse I've seen in a consistent basis is definitely in the LA area casinos. I personally have never seen any physical abuse besides mucking cards at parts of the body of the dealer, but I've heard horror stories of bottles of beer being used on a dealer (not talking kinky but violent.)

Some older Vegas regs can be pretty damn rude too!

There's a lovely older woman dealer at the Monte Carlo in Vegas who has told me the story more than once of her getting sucker punched in the face at the Bike a few decades ago. She for sure doesn't miss L.A.

Sad but true, SoCal card rooms generally put up with a lot more abuse to their dealers because there is no tourist base, practically all their customers are regulars. From their perspective they think that if they were to ban every player who made a nasty remark towards a dealer, they would have no business.

We have far more regulars than tourists in our room (nowhere near as big a poker area as LA ldo) and there's no way our floor/managers would tolerate dealer abuse.

If the managers in the area decided to change how things were run they could easily do so (assuming they all agreed) and the players would fall in line. If they truly are regs then they need to play, and if all the rooms in the area stopped tolerating bull****, they'd stop pulling bull****.

That they don't speaks to how they value their employees (they don't).

Also you don't have to ban everyone. You temp ban people swiftly when they are out of line and it spreads quickly. The *******s will still be *******s, but the people who just go with the flow will fall in line.

My .02 anyway.

Temp ban? lets not get crazy .... why not just start with taking the player away from the table to have a chat about what is and is not acceptable behavior. I can't even get that done ....

Here, it has been over 7 years since I made this thread about going to work in a room that allowed abuse and putting a stop to it.

I was at LA's friendliest last week and the dealer abuse was just appalling. I play at CP regularly and the dichotomy is just stunning. In the first few hours I saw several instances of dealer abuse that would get you booted from my room that no one even blinked an eye at. It is an embarrassment. I consider Commerce a cesspool of humanity and wouldn't ever play there if the games weren't so good.

There was a really nice bank teller I was talking to one time when making a deposit, and it came up that it was from playing at the casino. She told me that she used to be a dealer at the casino before she started working at the bank (BJ, hope it doesn't have to be just poker dealers here).

Talked to her a bit more and she told me why she finally left. After dealing a cold shoe or two, some guy started getting really crappy with her. She said she tried to ignore it and keep the table somewhat happy. Then she said all the sudden she felt that her pants leg was getting wet. She said the guy was so mad, he pulled his thing out under the table, and proceeded to urinate on her.

She said she was used to dealing with crappy player attitudes, but that was her breaking point. I just don't understand the mentally some people have, to where they think urinating on a dealer because of a cold run would be ok...

I was running chips in the top section of Hollywood Park casino in Inglewood. My mom was dealing a 25/50 limit holdem game when a drunk player in seat 9 was making a lot of noise about losing. He was cussing up a storm, with words here and there towards my mother. I saw what was happening and observed closely. 10 mins later same guy loses a big hand, gets up and appears to be reaching for my mother, so I go in between him and my mother and shove him to the ground. Security carried him out, and I got a stern talking to by [name removed], who was the shift supervisor at the time.

If you've ever worked in a poker room, you've seen some crazy ****. Money and losing it makes people behave strangely.

I've seen:
Urination
Spitting
Throwing multiple objects, including an unused tampon
Speeches that should be on YouTube
Alleged curses/hexes
Physical assault

The worst that has happened to me personally was someone grabbing my arm. I've had some people say some pretty ridiculous things to me, but I usually just let that stuff roll off my back.

I was at my local casino and a player folded to a raise while he called his cards "bitch 2's" The dealer threatened to call floor... In other words my local dealers are pampered.

yea some places the house has gone way overboard on the players. at one place the dealer wasnt mixing the cards when she shuffled so i politely told her and she called the floor and said i was harassing her and i got reprimanded and told i shouldnt have any interaction with the dealers like that. so i said fine and then no longer interacted in any way..

A long time at the Bike a dealer got smashed over the head with a beer bottle. Worst I've heard about. I play at the commerce and cussing at the dealer is so common no one blinks an eye.

I find it rude and disgusting when a player talks under his breathe to others at the table. It hasn't happened to me, but I've seen it many times.

The dealer has to sit there and take it, and if they say anything, the player says stfu and deal. I ain't talkin to you. You are treated as if you don't exist.

The same can happen that a player holds their tongue until the current dealer gets pushed, and as soon as you sit in the box he berates the previous dealer for the whole down. No matter how bad he/she is in front of me, do you expect me to agree with you, and side against a co-worker in front of 9 strangers/regulars. How in any way can I win in that situation?

unfortunately gambling brings out the worst in people. actually it is losing that brings out the worst in people.

as a dealer you have to detach yourself from the players when you are in the box and not take personal insults too harshly. as long as there is no personal contact and he doesnt go too far. too far is vague. but that is the way gambling is and if you dont have a thick skin a person should go elsewhere.

it certainly is not right and i dont condone it but it is going to happen. and you cant expect the house to eject all its bad players to sooth the faint at heart.
