with a link to this thread: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/27...thread-517176/

which have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with each other? did you even read the OP?

Basically what the OP was suggesting was electronic poker in a B&M Setting.

I agree it was a small strange leap to make it the eTable Containment...

...I just thought it should have been locked because it was a stupid concept.

But are we really going to sit here and nitpick and bitch about every mod action?

Gee, a thread on, basically, e-tables got linked to the e-table containment thread. Yeah, ashiXIII, I do see the difference between e-tables and what you are suggesting. The technical difference, because in the end it works out much the same way, except that what you are proposing wouldn't require the players to actually be at a table at all. Which means no security cameras, no floor people, no security....

Why go to the casino at all?? Better to go and play live, or figure out a site to play on that hasn't been shut down yet.

it's not the same at all, and i'm not saying it's a better idea or even a good idea, but gee, would be nice to have a place to talk about it that isn't the moderation thread.

Never mind.

Dear Rapini,

If you banned everyone in the b&m boom thread (except me ldo) you'd be mod of the year.

I agree with the one guy who said that that thread is so full of fail. But it's ****ing hilarious, please do not lock it.

What you were talking about sounds exactly like DC's new version of "online poker."

i think its a joke how i get infraction points for saying ppl's names or dealers names, this has been going on this forum for 10 years, and all of a sudden some noob from 2008 makes new rules/or starts enforcing them and i dont even get a warning

Stop signing your posts! That's killworthy too

Turning this into a LC bickering match is not a good way to convince the mods to relax moderation around here.

While I think we could use a little clean-up here and there (I'm in favor of the one catch-all tipping thread idea), I think B&M has been a fun place this past week. Considering how much heavy moderation other subforums needed, I'd say we held ourselves together fairly well.

Tho' I still like my idea of maintaining the OPs of casino threads to have all the vitals, then allowing the conversations to flow, pulling out stalled chatter to the corresponding archive thread periodically.

I also think all mods should be paid, if the site is making a profit.

Let's get them a toke box.

Heh.

Maybe they should be elected. This system was established when this site was far different than it is today. Perhaps it's time for a change. Not that I really care, but it's fun to spit ideas at the wall.

We could have open discussion points among the candidates, platforms on goals and approaches, etc.

If voting were public, then we could self-police against ballot box stuffing. Some forums would be more difficult than others, but I think overall the candidates would be okay with scanning the voters and seeing which seemed to be coming out of nowhere (tho' hopefully lurkers would contribute to the election threads).

Okay, this is probably a horrible idea.

But I still think it's reasonable to discuss the idea of them getting SOMETHING for their efforts. Is the site making money? If so, it's profiting from all of us, especially those who are volunteering to help maintain it.

So, what do we do with all these tipping threads? Nuke 'em, merge 'em, leave 'em?
04-23-2011 , 04:46 AM
I think having a tipping issue containment thread would be best. Tipping is never going to go away as a subject here. There are legitimate questions — yes, most have been answered before, but they're still legitimate. Saying "use the search" doesn't help, because newbs show up just to ask about tipping and we know they don't search. And letting the threads multiple isn't very good for the many regs who would like the front page to mean something.

OP of a containment thread could and should spell out a reminder that tipping is a matter of opinion and that while some of those opinions are strongly held, nastiness won't be tolerated.

I like a containment thread. It's a LOT of noise by a very slim minority; let 'em swing at nothing in Siberia. And feel free to nuke my distractions, deal out infractions as you see fit. I just don't think these threads are worth much after 300 posts, so I get a little silly.

And now let's start a thread on tipping the mod's....

I think the B&M forum has been pretty clean this week, as there are certainly fewer garbage threads than on any other forums. The two tipping threads are big wankfests but they're at least topical, and probably best to quarantine the wank into one specific area. Other than the guy who posted about "killing the games at the Borgota" I haven't noticed much crap in the B&M forum outside of the tipping threads.

containment thread probably the best choice. Include the stickied links covering the basics in the OP.
04-23-2011 , 07:47 AM
Bobo, lock the existing tipping threads and have a mod start a containment thread with the basic arguments about tipping. Link it in the FAQs and then ruthlessly merge any new tipping thread in it. Any noob will just read the first post, get the information they wanted and move on. Anyone who wants to beat the dead horse (like a certain mixed up cat) can post freely after that.
