Question for you experienced dealers out there: What is the food/kitchen set up like at your casino?

Terrible, we used to have decent food, that was cooked by a cook. Like hamburgers that tasted decent and were hot. Then they got this bright idea to make a buffet style system. The foods worse and it's double the price.

Sounds like we work in the same casino. We used to be able to order from the casual dining (cafeteria-like) place, but then all the dealers were too much for them, now we have to order buffet style... and it sucks.

Here's a few:

-I'm dealing some low limit hold game and an old grumpy reg shouts, "now I'm pissed off" after getting rivered. I respond with the overused "better than being pissed on". With out missing a beat and with a str8 face he replies, "depends on whose doing the pissing".

-Continuing with that theme; a dealer that I worked with was actually pissed on at the table. Some drunk whipped out his junk underneath the table and assaulted her with his urine. She said she thought someone spilled coffee on her until she looked down to realize what was going on. Somehow she maintained her composure and didn't tear the guy to shreds and stayed in the box until a supervisor came over. He was arrested and released. She filed a civil lawsuit but I guess the guy left the state and hasn't been found.

-In the middle of a game an older gentleman in seat 10 suddenly starts leaning on my shoulder. Kinda startled I moved out of the way thinking he was trying to pick something up off the floor. Unfortunately I was wrong and he crashed to the floor hitting his head hard. He woke up instantly dazed and confused with a huge gash on his forehead. He got up, was questioned by security for a while, and kept playing as if nothing happened.

I've seen so many hilarious and ridiculous things at the table happen over the years but can't remember most of them. I've always thought it would make a good book if a dealer who is a gifted story teller could compile a bunch of good tales from the tables.

cool thread, dont know how you guys put up with drunk degens day in and day out. Do you just block everyone out and focus clearly on the game. I would flip out on some people.

If the buffet for the paying customers is bad you can be 100% sure the food the employees get is going to be hideous. Conversely if the buffet for the paying customers is excellent it's almost guaranteed the employees will have a great cafeteria.

I say "Sure, why not?" What could go wrong, right?

When the time comes I tell him "Now!" and the chips drop! He's now like a toddler with a new toy. Every hand "Can I do it again?!" The whole table is cracking up at his silly behavior.

A while later I notice him putting all his chips into one big stack (about 300 in red and green). As I shuffle up the next hand, he moves the whole stack onto the drop slot. He looks at me with a drunken, mischievous smile and says "What would happen?"

I say "You lose all your chips. End of story. Now take them off of there!"

I turn to the left and start to pitch cards when I hear the SNAP of the slide being pulled! I look back and he is staring in bewilderment at the space where all his chips had just been. He yells "NO! GET THEM OUT OF THERE!"

The whole table is nearly falling out of their seats in laughter. Just the look on his face! Complete shock at what he just did. The floor told him he had been warned and his money was gone.

REBUY!!
This one's just gold. Thing is, I have a friend who would probably pull something like this off. Luckily, he's always refused my invitation for casino trips.

Our food is good. We can order anything the players can order, with a discount. I just try to snack on trail mix or something. Too many pizzas and cheese fries at work and I'll have to buy bigger pants.

It's a gaming employee thread, I don't see why not!

Not my story, but I found this on a dealer forum and thought it was pretty funny -

Quote:
I'm on a BJ game next to a Super Fun 21 table. My table is full of Asians jabbering a mile a minute in their native tongue. When I turn over a soft 17 and start paying and taking, a couple of them look confused and in the midst of all these Chinese words I hear "soft seventeen", so I pause and explain that on Super Fun we hit soft seventeen but stay on all other BJ games. One girls eyes get wide and she asks incredulously "You speak Chinese??!! I just winked at her and kept dealing. Never saw a table get so quiet so quickly.

small buffet style, with a food employee present who can grill you up a hamburger, hot dog, or ham sandwich if you want one. Cost is 5 bucks a week taken right out of your paycheck. Not a bad deal at all. The food quality ranges from blech to decent, with most offerings in the mediocre category.

Last casino I worked at was a la carte off a menu. Food quality was better since everything was made to order, but it was way more expensive, and it took ****ing forever to get your food, even for the simplest things. Order your food right when you get on break. Sit around 20 minutes. Now you have like 4 minutes to scarf and get back on the floor.

First casino I worked at was buffet style, two bucks a trip, and the food was absolutely horrible.

If you ever got calls from the poker room, was your immediate thought, "jesus christ, stop wasting my time with piddly crap"?

Because that's why I imagine surveillance thinks when they get a call from the poker room.

How many of you guys answer the phone in a poker room? If you run tournaments, the calls and questions are endless. Some are legit, but some are, well....

What tourneys are you running?
What's the buy in?
What's the juice?
How many chips do you get?
How long are the blind levels?
What's the prize pool? (as if you can possibly know before you know how many players there are)
How long does the tourney last?
What time does your noon tourney start? (seriously, we get this question)
What's the buy in for the $105 tourney at noon? (again, seriously...)
How many players will there be?
You can't buy in over the phone? Can you reserve a seat for me then?
What if you have to leave before the tourney ends?
What colors are your chips? (ok, I made that up )

One day I'm going to pretend to be like the "movie phone" guy on Seinfeld.

"Why don't you just tell me how much you would like to be in the prize pool...."

By the way Quadstriker, has your avatar always been animated or am I just that unobservant? Thought I was having a flashback before I realized it was actually moving.

Was dealing 3/6 tonight and this woman who is always in with her boyfriend was playing on table 1. She is terrible and I think her and her boyfriend have never cashed out.

We are heads up on the river with 4 diamonds and the board is paired. She leans over to the young kid next to her and starts to whisper in his ear. I tell her ma'am while you have live cards we can't be telling secrets. She sighs and calls 6 bucks.

She says I wanted to ask him if a straight beat a flush and rolls over a straight. The guy who bet rolls a boat and scoops the pot.

She sighs again and says I need a chip runner. I can't believe they are there like every other day.

We have one "featured" item per day (meatball sandwich, roast beef, etc), and it's $3. Along with that they have cold sandwiches and wraps (also $3). No drink either... those are in a machine, and $1. Needless to say I pack my own sodas. Remember this is a former slots-only casino so they are working on getting us a better set up (hopefully).

Our food is cheap but we get what we pay for. Once and a while when they close the buffet on the floor we do get a few decent things but that is only if you are extremely lucky. $1.59 is all our buffet costs but I call it the day old buffet, because everything on it looks like it is at least a day old.

On a side note the way they breathe life back into the food we have to eat, one they will just sprinkle cheese on it. That lasagna looks a little old, np just sprinkle cheese on it and nobody will notice! The second way they refresh our old food is I have seen them dump milk into the dry old mac and cheese and then sprinkle some cheese on it! Brand new!

We do get all the drinks we want for free outta the pop/coffee/juice machines.

If it is at all humanly possible to avoid answering the phone, I avoid answering the phone. And you're right. 20 questions with the tournament low rent players is the worst.

Regarding food, I can't imagine having to pay to get a drink. Now THAT'S sticking it to your staff.

Yesterday the floor said over the microphone, "Dealers, who wants an EO?"

I almost dislocated my arm.

Wow after reading this I guess we have it kind of good here for meals

We have a buffet and a grill cook. its completely free including drinks and you can use it as many times as you want. Some people abuse it and eat breakfast lunch and dinner every single day (even days off i've seen) but most people don't

the foods not that great and all tastes the same after a while to me, but it is free so whatever.

They do also use whatevers left over from the buffet so friday nights theres a ton of crab legs saturdays theres prime rib that a dude cuts for you like a regular buffet, etc.

As far as EOs, we used to be able to just walk in "sign and go" whenever you wanted to leave-basically didnt even have to work at al if you didnt want to . Now we've been so busy even after hiring 100 dealers nobody really gets to go home anymore. even with over 100 tables open were still short

Yeah back in the days (we don't do this anymore) we would chase down old ladies that drop $5.00 vouchers.

We would also be pissed every night there was a cash variance from the cage for $10 bucks
