I once prevented a burn and turn when waiting to push into a table. It was a pretty significant pot and I was good friends with the dealer, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have been paying close enough attention to see it happening. I did it pretty discreetly, just putting my hand on his shoulder and saying “Wait”...he was extremely greatful.

PLO dealing questions.

Having a rough time grasping the concept as I’ve seen two videos both showing to do things different. Never been trained in Omaha, have played though and just applied at a place that spreads it) Please let me know if these are correct and if not please explain and correct them. Any tips or tricks would be helpful as well.

1) $1/$2 PLO. Sb: $1 Bb: $2 - UTG wants to pot it so it’s $8 (bb times 4).
2) same as above but now UTG +1 wants to pot it so it’s $27 (UTG times 3 = $24 plus bb for $2 and Sb for $1) ((one video says Sb automatically goes to $2 or whatever the bb is but I have no idea if that’s correct?))
3) $1/$2 PLO Sb:$1 bb:$2 UTG calls the $2, fold, fold, fold, raise to $8, folds back around to UTG who pots it to $? (8 times 3 = 24 plus Sb $1, plus bb $2 is $27.. but do I add UTG original $2 or is that now combined in with his pot bet of $27)

$1/$2/$5 bring in.
1) Sb $1 bb $2, UTG wants to pot it. How much would it be? (Totally lost with the bring in)
2) Sb $1, bb $2, UTG opens for $5, UTG +1 pots it. It would be $18? ($1 plus $2 plus 5 times 3)

Any help with these is very much appreciated! Cross posted to r/poker

If you got #1 you should get #2.

Why is the first one $8 and not $7? The answer is that in cash games the traditional rule is you treat the small as having been completed. This is the same reason the repot by utg+1 is $28 not $27. Keep in mind that some rooms may not use this rule. Also keep in mind that in tournaments this rule is not usually used.

#3 you do not add the $2 in. The reason is that the 3 x the big bet has already factored in the call. You can always do this the long way. First put in the $8 call now add up all the chips on the table this number is the amount of the raise (add it to the $8 in front of UTG).

The game with a bring in will likely have a house rule to deal with the blinds. In my room we treat the combined blinds as one $5 bet. So if UTG wants to raise pot it is $15.

This will be the common rule as the point of the $5 bring in is the typically to keep the action in $5 increments.

In my room #2 ( with the bring in) is $20 because we treat the blinds combined as $5.

Rando here to say I have no clue how you do your job and not end up in prison for manslaughter. I personally wouldn't last 5 minutes (and not the least because I suck at shuffling and dealing). For instance:

3/5 game and some dude is coming back from the bathroom. The dealer can't seem him (he's behind the dealer) and deals the next hand. The guy gets to the table and is all bent out of shape about how he should have been dealt in and that the dealer should have known (psychic powers being a major requirement for your job, of course), blah, blah blah. He's trying to elicit sympathy from the table, but no one gives a **** and just ignores him.

On and on he rants about it until I finally snap (there was an audible snapping sound) and yell at him, "Oh my God! Just shut up about it!!" Luckily, he did just that (I think he was a bit stunned).

Sometimes being a player has its advantages. :-)

Sooo many stinky people today on my shift.

One of my tables, someone definitely had gas and kept farting multiple times. Boy did that stink.

Another table and this dude in Seat #1 had breath that smelled like a soiled toilet.

Push a different table, and Seat #10 smells like he hasn't showered in a few days.

A brush comes over to give me a fill and later said, "How do you deal with that stench?" lol

Sometimes I breathe through my mouth after getting a nasty whiff of some stuff, but then I feel like I'm tasting it. Sometimes it really sucks to be locked in place for so long.

Sometimes I have to lean to the side on an elbow when the one or nine seat reeks.

Overdone perfume or cologne can be as bad as BO or bad breath.

A few weeks ago there was an obese guy in the one seat, and I'm sure he must have literally s*** his pants. I dealt to him a few times throughout the night and every time he got up to take a smoke break there was the most putrid smell that came out from between his ass and the chair, absolutely disgusting.

I found BO to be a much bigger problem in Las Vegas than other spots around the USA I've worked.

Bad breath was a bigger problem when I wrote tickets in the sportsbook. Horse bettors announce their bets like they're Classified State Secrets or something, and you have to walk the line between "leaning forward to hear them" and "staying out of the Danger Zone".

One guy's breath was so bad, we nicknamed him Godzilla, because he was "breathing fire". As he approached the windows, and we all tensed up hoping he'd pick "any window but mine", the supervisor would start singing softly, "Oh no, they say he's got to go, go go Godzilla! Oh no, there goes To-ky-o", really selling the staccato on "To-ky-o".

When Godzilla stopped coming in, we learned he had died. Of stomach cancer. Aw, man. I guess we're a bunch of *******s.

We had a huge buy-in tourney this weekend. These folks have money, and much of the idle chatter focused on this BitCoin craziness. One guy said he found a BitCoin expert on Twitter to follow for advice, and added, "...so I click to see who else is following this guy--it's ALL poker players!"

Every table, same story, that's all folks wanted to talk about. Folks who are in, want to brag. Folks who are not in, want to know about it.

After four consecutive downs of this, I could stay silent no longer: "When this thing crashes, eventually, I don't know what it's going to do the economy--but it's going to WRECK poker!"

The folks who were in, all nodded. One added, "Same thing if McGregor won that fight!"

Hey guys,

So I'm being promoted to floor. I was wondering if you guys had any advice for me on how to be a great floor and be successful. I'll be the youngest floor there and I want to do a great job and really excel at the job.

Any tips and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.

When dealing with the players ..... Remember when you were a player.

When dealing with the dealers ..... Remember when you were a dealer.

Thanks, this makes sense. Problem is, one player is always going to be unhappy with the decision (by virtue of the game). Can't please everyone as a floor, right?

You can't make everybody happy. Sometimes you cant make anybody happy. Reasonable human beings will hopefully understand that. But while you are making someone unhappy at least try to let them know that you arent happy about it.

Years ago I had to force out dealers because business was slow. I tried to find as fair a way as possible to determine who got to stay and who had to leave. It was a pretty crappy thing to have to do.

Then one day my a shift manager came to me and said "Susan [name changed] came to me and told me she was very upset that you forced her out the other day .... But that she thought about it later and realized that you had to send someone and that you were trying to be fair about it.". And I was pretty happy about that .... What more can you want then to have them understand even if they don't like it.

Now the problem is that not everyone is reasonable.

Follow the RR method, always carry around racks. Continuously walk your section and observe your games.

Back your dealers up as often and as vigorously as possible. Never show a dealer up when they're in the box. If they screw up tell them away from the table.

Encourage discussions about difficult or unique rulings with the other supervisors to bolster consistency in your room. Having a situation ruled one way on a Monday and the opposite way on a Tuesday frustrates players and dealers alike.

Give your ruling and walk away.

Occasionally 86 players. Keeps the rest in line.

Had one floorman who you could tell how much he hated forcing someone out.

And then another who wouldn't force anyone out. He's make it table, break, break or worse if no one wanted to go.

From a player's perspective, be available. There is nothing more frustrating/laughable in the room I play in than when a dealer calls for the floor and EVERYONE in the room hears it, EXCEPT the floor.

Multiple calls (over two) just shouldn't happen.

This is often not the fault of a the floorperson, but the fault of management for how they staff the room.

in many smaller rooms you can have a single floorperson who has responsibilities as the cashier, list attendant, chiprunner, and floor supervisor. This person may have to answer the phones and have responsibilities requiring them to step into an office or leave the room. (I had to run food orders to the restaurant because the restaurant management would not answer the phone ... I worked in one room where the floor would walk across the entire property to get food for guests, I've been in rooms where they did not have a printer in the poker room so whenever paperwork had to be printed the floor had to go off to some remote office location to pick up the paperwork).

This is a perfect description of my room in the morning (when I play). Usually there is an experienced dealer or dual-rate to cover.
