I'm not trying to be a smart azz, but its true. Winning players require a smaller bank roll because they're [always] adding to thier roll. Losing or break even players are adding money to thier roll from outside sources.
And while its true that sometimes we all take bad beats, and sometimes the cards just don't come when we have a great draw, the overhwleming majority of the time that I hear people talk about their beat stories and downswings they are simply playing bad.

I absolutely agree with you. Don't worry I'm constantly studying the game through mostly Bart Hanson's DeucePlays which has helped tons. I know where the leaks in my game are (mostly trying to outplay other players when there's no fold equity). Although I credit most of my 6 buyin downswing towards suckouts, about 2 buyins was because of my own spewiness.
It's just difficult for me to get a hold of a steady income to help invest in a bankroll as I'm just a university student.
