I hear this somewhat frequently. Guy gets his money all-in, usually is behind percentage wise and says "C'mon, one time!". I don't really understand this. Is there some sort of Poker God that rewards people "one time" for getting in their money bad...or am I missing something?
Basically they think they never win and have horrible luck. So bad that they have never won a pot. Never. In their mind they have never had a hand that was ahead hold up and they have never sucked out on someone. They are praying that they will win a hand at least one time.
Or in a more precise way they need something to yell and look like a douchebag without actually praying to a god.
The players that like to the phrase "One time," often say it more than one time. Their "One time" was up a thousand times ago. Just another one of those "stupid things people say" at the table.
I sucked out on a guy when there were three of us left in a tournament (my 77 vs. his 99) and then end result was +$1100 for me, and a very likely -$1900 for him....
I forgot to yell "one time" and now I feel bad. It was by far my biggest tournament cash ($2200) and I totally would have used it if I knew that's how it worked.
"Sorry buddy, this is my one time." <reach over and muck his cards>
I thought you were only supposed to yell it when you were ahead, like, "Let my hand hold up this ONE TIME!"
basically, it's something I say more then one time, it usually occurs when I get my money in bad, generally an under pair, it's fun to say though and by now i've gotten accustom to it
